    hey all,

one of the rear door handles on my vt is broken and when my missus left the door open at her old mans house the fool put the child lock on and shut the door so now we cannot open the door again.

is there any way of getting the door open again without causing any damage?

just wish holden would make some of their stuff properly so we wouldnt have these problems.

    any help is appreciated.

    this is a long shot...

but maybe you could get something to slide in fromt the inside to try to unlock the child lock? like some of the packing tie stuff. Something that wouldn't scratch the inside guard.

try to see on the other side if you can unlock the child lock with out the door closed to practice see if the lever you decide will be strong enough? other than that maybe the door handle will have to be hacked off and you could reach in to unlock it through the hole in the door handle. But try to source one from a wrecker first that is the same colour.

good luck, and try to get the kids in from the other side of the car!

Can you wind the window down take the weather strip off and try open the door from the outside handle from inside the door ?

Commiserations odyssey, (I am married to one also LOL) you could try cutting an icecream container into a 1"" strip and push it in past the trim and move it as feg describes. Practice on the other door.

    Best of luck (LOL)

obiviously it sounds as though you need a new handle or some kind of mechanism on the inside anyway, but having said that i'm basing my go in through the door handle statement on suposition. I've no experience in doing this or have read or heard that it will work. So only do that as a last resort!

Maybe take the door trim off of the other door than have a look at what seems to be wrong?

I had one of my locks not lifting up for ages and someone on here suggested spraying wd40 in to the lock. I had tried everything and was very doubtful that it would work but it did free up the lock which now can be opened manually. I haven't taken of the door trim yet as very lazy with certain jobs!

Anyway my point is that trying things no matter how odd they seem sometimes work and can save a lot from trying the hard way!

    Good luck.

its the outside handle that has broken on the inside of the door so the child lock is on and you cant open from the inside.

but i think i will try the pulling off weather strip and try from that, ive had the trims off b4 so i know how they work.

    thanks for the ideas:thumbsup:

I know this is rough.....But i have fixed this issue before by drilling through broken door handle in centre, and then using a power jigsaw to cut bulk of old handle out.....Then i needed a replacement outer handle and assembly, and 1 new control arm... try to stick to the bottom of the handle when cutting to try and avoid wires.....Like I said rough, but it got me in there and then i was able to fix as new, never know I was there. I was lucky and only destroyed 1 other replaceable piece in the process........Gotta do what you have gotta do.....
