Would anyone have pictures of the special tool needed to fit the rear main seal to a Ecotec? Also where could I buy one from? Any places other than Holden? Im trying to stay away from that place since they tried charging me $50 for flywheel dowel pins.
It's better to buy a complete rear main seal plate assembly. That way the seal is in perfect factory tolerances and you just bolt the plate to the back of the block. It's a self locating plate and costs about $100 from Holden.
According to the Holden service manual to remove/refit the plate you need to raise the motor 40mm and drop the sump and then you need another tool to align the plate. Not to mention the torque to yield bolts that hold the plate to the block. Seem like a lot of work.
