Hi there. today i put some new fe2 shocks on the back of my irs VS. pretty simple procedure, not much i can do wrong. Once it was finished i noticed that my car was about 2 or 3 centimetres higher. How can shocks make a car higher, is there something else wrong? any help would be great
This probably explains why my calais sits lower in the rear than when I first bought it. Just confirms my shocks are stuffed. Hey eddy, How much difference have you noticed in handling and ride quality just from changing the rears?
How much time. like weeks or years lol. and it actually rolls heaps less with just new rear shocks. i was quite surprised. specially since it looks like its jacked up.
lol all the shocks in my car were able to be pushed in and never expanded, and the springs were sagged so when i put all new ones in there the drive was heaps firmer. I think its a month before the shocks start to soften, my rears were high till i put my old tyres in the boot and now its lower
Oh yeah, and some doochebag sold me fe2 rear springs off ebay claiming to be for vr-vy (which doesn't sound right as vt onwards has a different irs rear spring) ended up being vz ss ute springs. i emailed him to complain and he said that all the fe2 springs are the same. i gave him the benefit of the doubt and tried to install tham. sure enough they jacked the rear of my car by about 50mm . NOT HAPPY!! sorry bout my rant, had to complain to someone.
Shocks for FE2 specifications are gas filled and they cannot can make a car sit higher - initially it may seem that way but it is purely an illusion. The only shocks that can alter a cars height are air shocks which need a compressor to alter the ride height.
lol, i actually don't know how long but i'd say few months. a car will only lift up from shocks if the old ones were pretty worned out.
Only happens in IRS cars. Live axle cars it makes no difference, but new shocks in IRS cars does actually make it sit a bit higher.
I don't doubt your measurements - maybe measure again in a week or two as the theory is that gas filled shock should not make any difference. Maybe just jacking the car up and having the suspension hanging fully down while changing the shocks has caused this. If it stays that way you will have a higher centre of gravity which will (again in theory) make the car roll more on corners......
