This ve l98 engine is showing sighs of being tired:-( 140k full service history all it's life, pretty p**s poor for such a large capacity engine! Very disappointed with it:-( can anyone shed some light which would be the best way to go, rebuild mine or crate motor? Just don't want a poor quality gm tolerances and s**t sounding piston slap from a new engine! Any info appreciated rough cost of rebuild? Problems are noisy valve train, embarrassing piston/rod knock when cold. Thanks in advance;-)

A mate of mine recently had his rebuilt with forged everything as cylinder 7 went... ( boosted 60000km old motor)
That set him back more than 10k

Damn:-0 that not much less than what car is worth... Nice car to drive but it really makes me wonder if a new engine is worth another 140k only:-(

Re-build yours that way you know what your getting and whats inside it.

Perfect time to make some mods if thats what floats your goat.

What exactly is your engine doing to make you say i needs a rebuild? has it lost power?

Still makes good power. Just sounds like s**t! Knocking bad when cold, and bloody ticky as hell when hot.

is it up to date with services and using the correct oil? it could be a blocked oil pick up maybe?
Id go get it compression tested if its still making the correct psi per cylinder i dont see what you would gain from a full rebuild, might just need new lifters?

Have you had it to a technician to inspect?

Oil/ filter change every 3 months or 4 to 5 ks. Was thinking doing a comp test, lifters are a big job to change.. That heads off:-0 not like the old chev small blocks just a valley off job;-)

Quite a lot of people live bi curiously via this forum and have no intention of doing any thing mentioned in their thread, just sayin.

Nothing wrong with it, just doesn't need so much effort is all.
