MPower kindly posted ( in the VF section) this wiper motor recall info that apparently affects both the later VEs and the new VF. My own VIN is very close to but precedes the first of those affected so I just missed out. If you have a late series 2 VE it would be worth checking if your car is affected by this. Thanks to mpower. http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...lden-recalls-27-000-commodores-wiper-fix.html
Hey mate, I'm having the same problem. 2011 series 2 sv6, and the wipers conked out. The motor is trying its hardest but just won't move the wipers up. The motor does however have enough gusto to get them back down. Holden won't come to the party even though it is the exact fault that was happening in the recalled models. Not happy. Is it an easy/cheap fix?? Cheers
1. Don't know if it is a cheap fix or not because it may involve a new motor being fitted in your case but the dealer can tell you. 2. Given that Holden has issued the recall for faulty wipers for series 2 VEs of other VINs and you have the same failure they are stiffing you if Holden will not fund the repair. 3. I would write a submission to Holden Customer service detailing the problem and noting the recall for other VEs and arguing that under ACCC consumer legislation you are, in any event, entitled to have the problem rectified by them at no cost to you. Also advise them that as you cannot use the car with inoperable wipers you are going to xxxx Holden dealer to have the problem repaired and you expect to be refunded the cost for fixing or replacing the faulty item as the law provides. https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees Also indicate that if they decline to come to the party you will be submitting a complaint to the ACCC and to the QLD Office of Fair Trading asking them to take the matter up further on your behalf. Fair trading | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government 4. It is up to you if you go to a dealer and have it fixed immediately but I would not be driving the car without operable wipers and these items should definitely not fail in a 2011 car. This is a safety issue so it is not something you can wait to have fixed while arguing with GMH about their liability to repair the problem at no cost to you. (Don't let anyone other than a Holden dealer touch it though). 5. If you make a fuss as suggested I would be surprised if Holden did not come to the party. If your problem is pretty much the same as the recall you are on even stronger ground. In an arbitration, if it ever came to that, I doubt you would lose as a wiper motor should not fail in a 2011 vehicle and I think the recall on other series 2 VEs because of complete wiper failures should pretty much make it a slam dunk for you.
I have had this wiper recall actioned on my MY12.5 SV6Z and MY14 SV6. The MY14 was just done today. I thought that the recall related to an item that was only fitted from VIN 6G1EK8E49CL711575 onwards. My MY12.5, build date March 2013, has VIN 6G1EK5E38CL718412, i.e. just 6,837 vehicles later. The final six digits are the sequential build number. My VE has the same windscreen as the VF (thicker for NVH), so I suspect that the VF wipers might have been fitted at the same time the VF windscreen became a running change into the last of the VE's. I believe the sequential build numbers include all locally manufactured vehicles, i.e. Cruze and Commodore. Based on that and the small number before March 2013, I suspect that only some MY12.5 Commodores would have been affected. While I am obviously not sure, I think that the MY11 was probably not fitted with the same item that was subject to the recall.
Wow Sean, thanks for all that information. Yeah I thought as much in regards to it being a safety issue and it not being reasonable for that part to break. Being in the middle of heavy rain at the moment (Brisbane), it's bloody annoying to say the least. I'll be booking the car in right away to get fixed (as I need it as a daily driver) and chat to Holden about them fitting the bill. Thanks again for the speedy reply!
