Recalls expire date - any car in general

Tried to search for this answer but no go.
How long is a vehicle manufacturer recall valid for ( in general for all cars)
And if a recall has not been carried out on a used car, can you still get it done at no cost by the relevant manufacturer/ dealer..

if the recall is for safety reasons, i would assume no expiry date

If the dealer says no then take it up with Holden customer care , the dealers are just the service agents for the manufacturer and very good at deflecting issue just like this , yes some recalls do have time limits set to be completed in or by , which may be set by governing bodies some are open ended and must be completed when the car/s is returned for service until all affected vehicles have been checked wether it be by the first owner or the second or third etc etc , recall campaigns are carried out often and vehicles logged and recall stickers applied where applicable, once the required action is under taken and repairs carried out if required .
