Not the best way to start with the new model.

Although i disliek the VE, i still love holdens..so i will defend the recall. Unliek ford holden quickly make sure all concerned are notified with press releases and sometimes personal calls. The chances of the recall problem actually being a problem would be assesed at a very low percantile, but it is better to show like you care to consumers rather then try and hide the fact. Brave for holden to do a recall so early, but these things do happen unfortunatley.

OK, what national recall have Ford had (safety wise, like this one) where Ford has waited to announce it. The only company I know off that has done this is Toyota with their front steering recall after 9 people died in a accident in Japan due to this fault.

its only 2000 cars apparently, only effects the V8 versions as far as im aware.

As the link above says, it can possibly be a problem because IF it gets damaged you cant see it because there is a sleeve. So they will just replace the hose im betting, or check its not broken etc.

I dont think its anything major

You didnt hear about mitsubishi and their HUGE porblems?? several people have died from dodgy mitsubishis a few years back, and they were badly criticised over it, nearly took them out of business. Thats why they started that whole 'better built, better backed' campaign

Only thing i like about VE is steering and handling awesome, interior nice, back of SSV nice,6l engine grouse, but seriously should expect a lot more from all the time and testing on the billion dollar baby.
Just dont like that front bar on the SSV at all.
    I think recall is (ONLY) 1300 cars'.:ranting:

Its still not a good thing, and def not what holden wanted considering the VE is meant to have addressed alot of issues such as this. You get this tho with a new model, but Holden seems to have their fair share of recalls.

Toyota seems to be the most irresponsible large manufacturer. They have been investigated by the police for criminal negligence in Japan for not issuing recalls on vehicle (early to late 90s).

Like Holden with the commodore, Toyota (the supposed king of quality/reliability) also had issues with its globally produced Series 1 Camry.

Unlike Holden Toyota didn't recall the Camry - for what I regard as a serious problem. I guess that recalls unlike technical-service bulletins would be widely covered and reported by the media, seriously hurting Toyotas PR driven image.

90 owners out of 5,800 units is a very high incidence ratio.

Toyota and bad transmissions isn't new!
There was a design flaw with the first of the wide body Camry's (93 model) transmission. The cage bearing would give way and the steel bits would travel into the transaxle and destroy that as well. Result....looking at about $3500 rebuild. Sad when it happens to an old couple on the pension who thought their car was Toyota reliable.

2 public recalls in one month. This will not do the reputation of the car any favours. I note the press are loving it. Even though they are minor faults. The real shame is that the faults are from parts made by other manufacturers. This is what happens when you outsource to the cheapest bidder. I wonder if any other quality issues will arise from other cheap parts from Korean manufacturers.

Those asian parts are 'cheap' often because of cheap labour, not neccessarily the way they are manufactured.

Just because aussies get paid more, doesnt necessarily mean they do a better job.

Its all good to say Holden shouldnt outsource parts or find cheap bidders.... But if they got all the best parts and a base model Omega cost $45,000, then gee I wonder how sales would be going and I wonder what people would be complaining about then.

Well that site lists the seat belt recall, but what it dont list is the other 2 that came through with it, even though they are classed as customer satisfaction recalls. one being hvac unit on lower spec cars and other being A/C drain tube grommet not seating corrrectly allowing water to pour onto the floor.
Just for the record, the Captiva had one come through also for power steer hoses.
