Just ordering some parts on eBay, I put them on watchlist so my mum can order them... She brang up how the parts said 'HOLDEN V8 253 308 RED MTR GENUINE'
I know its a 253 but its a blue motor... Would this make a difference? :\

also.. Buying a new waterpump with new gasket... does it require gasket goo? :\
    cheers

I'd imagine it would depend on what parts you're buying. I don't know what parts are different exactly as I've only played with red 6's and 8's.

I've always used ultrablue when replacing waterpumps.

The blue motors were extensively upgraded from the old red V8's and the 253 benefitted most from the upgrade.

New heads, inlet manifold and electronic ignition, and a four barrel in place of the old 2 barrel carby were fitted to the 253. As Hangman has said, it depends on what you are buying as to whether it is any use to you.

Actually the blue had L shape crossover. Only the late 1977 red had U shape.
