hello all,

On the 6cyl 3.3 motor fitted to VBs, what is the redline? Max power is at 3800 apparently. Mine is completely stock and in reasonable condition. Automatic transmission seems to naturally change up at 4000-4400 rpm under full acceleration, from what I could calculate. I have seen a wheels roadtest from that period of a torana, where they had it up to 5000rpm, but this was a manual.

any thoughts?

the 202's tend to break things at high rpm, and since its such an old car, my advice is not to run it that high.

just sayin

5500 is redline, anything above 4500 they tend to scream a little but they have a reasonable solid bottom end so up to 5500 they can handle but they dont like it particularly. The 186 was always regarded as the best of the red motors, generally much smoother and not pushing towards the limits of the block like 202s do.

ok, thanks for that - yeh at about 4500rpm the fanbelt starts to squeal, but its a classic cuiser, I try not to thrash it.
