What tyres do people prefer these days? Not necessarily the absolute best (expensive), or the cheapest, but what's good performance/value?
Also what is the widest rear tyre you can fit to the standard redline rim? Can you fit a 285? 295? (acknowledging that manufacturer quoted spec does not necessarily mean they "look" wider...
Thanks guys.

I just got some Potenza S001's and I'm very impressed with the lack of road noise especially going up to a 20 inch wheel.

Pretty happy with the 275 Pontenza on 19 " rims on mine.

Potenza RE 003's have been epic.

RE003's on my ute, so much better than the RE050's. Can grip with ~330rwkw, turn in is very nice with the right amount of camber (~1 degree neg), and good in the wet.

Not cheap but well worth every dollar.

I try most brands and the Potenza's offer good value but I can't help going back time and time again to the P Zeros but they're not for anyone who wants a long lasting tyre.

I would go with Michelin Pilot Sport 3. Sticks like **** to a blanket in the wet and very quiet and grippy in the dry. Treadwear rating of 320 too!
Roughly same cost and sometimes cheaper than RE003.
The OEM RE050 only has 140 Treadwear rating

I remember reading an independent test of RE003's vs all the above, at the time I was looking and it out shone them all in every area. I paid about $1,400 for staggered width with nitrogen. Maybe more than the OP wants to pay?

Google the "experts" reviews on tyres, Contisportcontact 6 or Michelin Pilotsport 4S are the latest favourites. Otherwise stick to factory fitted Bridgestone. Good tyre are ranging $400-$500+ each for the 20"...Whatever you choose, don't get the "run flat" tyres. It is tempting as SSVR doesn't have spare but don't use "run flat" tyres.

And why not use run flat tyres?
