And my point is that religion DOESN'T tell them to do that. Point out to me where in the bible or koran (sp?) it says that
Interpretation of the religion does. Killing under the guise of god has been going on for over 2000 years now...
I was raised as a Catholic, however I'm not really a big supporter of religion as such. However I do believe in a creator or 'God'. Mankinds understanding of science is in it's infancy, we are discovering new things every day, discovering phenomena that scientists used to once dismiss or contradict. We don't even know what lays at the bottoms of our oceans let alone what lays beyond. Science hasn't proved the existance of a God, nor has it disproved the existance. And more importantly, I have my own reasons, and personal experiences that supports my personal belief. I don't try to convince anyone to share my beliefs, however I do like to make it clear to the critics that I'm not simply a blind follower because of my upbringing. To the contrary I don't agree with a lot of beliefs of the church and don't follow any particular religion for that reason. There are so many fundamental things that still cannot be explained by science and probably never will be. So science and my belief in a creator don't really contradict each other. I follow science with great interest, in particular the theories on the creation of the universe. And there certainly seems to be a lot supporting the 'big bang theory' when it comes to the creation of the universe. Once again that doesn't contradict any beliefs I have. I do think there is a lot of evidence to suggest the universe may have been created with the big bang. However science still cannot answer the question as to how that very first particle that led to the big bang was created, when there was nothing to create it ?? I rarely say anything is impossible, because despite the fact that mankind likes to think we know everything, we really know very little outside of our own existance on our little planet in this seemingly endless universe, and possibly even endless dimensions...... As for religion being the reason for war etc.... Let's face it the human race is self-destructive by nature. The biggest wars in our history (World War 1 & 2) were based on human greed and pride, not religion. Religion is simply a mask used to justify those very same human attributes/flaws. If we don't have religion to use as an excuse to kill and destroy, it is based on race, colour, gender and the overall desire for power and wealth.
whats this i heard the other week at work about the pope saying sorry to christians and that there is a chance there are other life forms (aliens) out there?
Although I personally don't believe the world is only 6000 yrs old, I'm surprised that no one has stopped to consider the fact that if God created the world only six thousand years ago, he might just have created it the way we see it today. So in other words, if the world was created 6000 years ago, and thus we were created 6000 years ago, then the world would not have undergone any significant changes since then. So, maybe IF God created the earth 6000 years ago, he might have laid down a billion years worth of ice. Maybe.
Quoted from a very cynical and hilarious, yet strangely logical source. Also, one of my favourite images, from a christian childrens book:
If someone walked up to me and said they were superman and could fly... I'd say, "show me". When they fail to show me then walk away... then, yes, I would probably call them ****in nuts lol. There is a difference when it comes to stories in the bible though. You can't just say "show me" and have it proven or disproved right then and there on the spot. I do admit, even as a Christian, that some of the stories, particularly of the many miracles performed, are hard to believe. Science will refute all the stories of miracles in the bible... however science has proven that matter can not be created or destroyed, yet at the same time has a theory that the universe was created from nothing. The believer in an intelligent designer therefore has every right to call the believer in "the big bang" ****in nuts. Are we all just ****in nuts until someone is proven right?
So because bible stories happened it the past they cant be dis-proven? When they defy the very rules this planet works on, yes they can be dis-proven. It is not physically possible to fall pregnant without semen. It is not physically possible for an ocean to be parted by one man. Scientists have not proven matter can not be created, they have just not found a way to create it, they are working on creating it as we speak. End of the day, the "bible" years had many far fetched stories, amazingly all of which stopped suddenly. Why is it they stopped and no more miracles have occurred in so long? My guess is humans finally discovered hallucinogenics and what they do...that and we all know how chinese whispers works in a room of 50 people, can only imagine how it works over 3000 years and thousands upon thousand of people.
There's probably no God. With Richard Dawkins in the forground. Why did the Athiest's who created this ad not use the phrase, There's is no God.? You see using the word "is" would be a dogmatic faith position. Leaving them open to charges of having a religion. Now you do not want to be accused of that do you? It might just leave your arguments open to them same ones used against other religions.
wow, i must appologize, i miss quoted a thread, my appologize, i didnt mean to revive this 3 yr old thread.
garth, you didnt revive it lmao. I reopened it and moved all the religious stuff from yours to here mate
ah, so i wasnt loosing my mind when i quoted someone and it ended up here. i thought i stuffed up, well with that in mind, i think i might cover my red face and open it up again alow the flaming of god to re-commence
I say Yes to religion, PEACEFUL one if I didn't believe in god, and that there us a hell, I'd just kill those who I hate, steal from the rich, and deal drugs 24\7 but I have to be nice, helpful, respectful ... so I guess it's better for everyone
 Hate to open your eyes, what you just said is all about morals, nothing to do with religion... *waits for the line about how morals come from religion...*
