I just bought a new ignition key fob from ebay for my VS exec. I ordered the standard VS exec 2 button fob, but they ran out of that type, so they sent me a 3 button fob instead that also has a boot release button.. Ive programmed the new keyfob with the tech1, and it all worked like it should have etc. I thought Id quickly check the new keyfobs signal with the tech1, as the tech1 will show which remote button is being pressed, and I noticed that the BCM can detect that the fob has a boot release button, when its pressed, it shows up as "trunk" on the tech1. I reckon you might be able to run a remote boot release from the LOW series BCM. I know that the calais and berlina etc had this as an option, but Ive never seen it on a lower spec VS. Ive always thought that the LOW BCM's didnt even support the remote boot release feature, but they can definitely detect the signal from the keyfob, so should work if connected.

It's worth picking up the mechanism from a wrecker if you can, as easy as putting a key in a lock is, the boot release is an awesome feature, especially when you have 10 bags of shopping hanging off your arms... I always wanted to install one in my VC as you had to turn the car off and take the keys out to open the boot, which I always found a hassle when dropping people off or picking people up that had bags/ tools etc...

Yeah, because Ive always thought that the LOW BCM doesnt support it, Ive never really looked at, or even really thought about installing it, although as you said, it would be very handy to have, I just stumbled across this when checking the keys signal, so I thought I might post it up as it might be of interest, or be handy info for someone else. Theres not many wreckers around my parts, but If I do evet come across a cheap wrecked VS with it fitted, I will definitely be taking the parts I need to see if I can get it working. Can anyone tell me whereabouts the button for the electric boot release is in the VS models. My exec has the boot release lever by the drivers seat, but its cable opreated, not electric. The VS gregorys manual wiring diagram shows on the high level models, that as well as the BCM, theres an electrical switch that also activates the boot release.

    It's in the glove box.

I could prob get all the gear from the wrecker I go to if you want, I'm planning a drive up to the gold coast in feb so I could drop it off to you if you're interested...

Ah,thanks for that, I remember now that a VN calais we once had, also had it there, so its never been moved in the later models. They moved the alarm bypass keyswitch from in there to the front passenger side door pillar. It used to be right next to the boot release if I remember correctly.
Mate Id love to be able to take you up on the offer, and I really do appreciate it, but at the moment I have to say that I just cant afford it, Ive just bought a bike and Ive been emptying the old wallet every payday trying to get it up to scratch for rego, (jeez bikes and their spare parts are expensive these days!!) plus christmas time etc, but as its not until february, I still might be able to work something out and I will let you know well before february rolls around, and again, thankyou for the offer. The couple of wreckers around here just order in any parts you need from a sydney wreckers or whereever. They keep nothing on site really any more, and have no yards full of scrapped cars that you can pick through etc..The one good wreckers yard that was here that you could walk around and pick what you needed, got closed down by the local council. Typical ,you can tell theyve never had to rely on the wreckers to keep their cars on the road.

My old VL exec actually had one, it was in the glove box... maybe someone can confirm if they were once standard feature?? I may have installed it but I don't think so.
No worries mate, let me know as it wouldn't be a hassle. The one I go to in Sydney usually has enough VS's to supply me with any standard bits and pieces I need and occaisionally suprises me with a seriesII calais or seriesIII statesman...

Does the glovebox button power the release solenoid or signal the BCM to open the boot?

from what i found in my ss, the wiring for the boot popper IS in the the boot lid but there is no wiring for the button in the glovebox so you might want to have a look at yours...
