Ok so it sounds like I should only do it when I'm away from local areas. Thanks guys.
And again are pacemakers the best bang for buck?

I can also vouch for how crap it sounds. I left only the extractors on my stock standard VS Ecotech. It kinda sounded ok at idle, but anything above that and it sounded like ass.

I didn't drive it, it was in my garage after i changed the transmission.

Friends of mine did a similar thing when they changed the engine in their Toyota Tureno, left only the extractors on and took it around the block. Car got caught by the cops and pink sticker'd (i think) meaning it cant be driven on the road till it goes through a WOF and inspection (Defect over there in OZ i guess)

The risk IMO is too great to "just see how it sounds".
    Ask yourself,
    "Can I afford a defect?"
    "Can I afford the fine?"
If the answer is no to either of those, then you have your answer to "Should I drive around the block?"

Yeah basically a bit more of a boost in performance. Economy being a bonus. It's not going to be a huge increase I know, but I think the car will be able to breath easier.

Now there is a can of worms :p

Pacemaker have been at it for a long time, they are a reputable brand and they sell a quality product for a reasonable price.

There are cheaper brands out there that probably give equal performance, but I think that pacemaker are the safe bet.

I can afford both, but after talking to you guys about it. It would probably not be worth it. Haha oh well you live and learn.

A sports exhaust is probably what you need if you don't already have one.

Pacemakers extractors are a good addition too but don't expect any real noticeable gains, well not without a CIA and a memcal tune.

dont always get your hopes up about extractors improving fuel economy.
i speak from experience here =P

however i will vouch some cars do sound amazing without much of an exhaust.
265 hemi. big block 8s etc
but a v6 commodore will never sound exactly "amazing" i nthe long run (my opinion though)
probably to do with how refined the motors are nowadays

When i had a turbo diesel diahtsu rocky the exhaust snapped off at the end of the extractors when i was off road, had to drive it an hour home. Was so loud it sounded like a damn mack truck haha was fun but its loud enough to give you a headache

VS-S, for an example, I have a VR V8, Extractors, well sized exhaust, blah blah blah, and right before muffler number one, i have a blanking plate that unbolts to allow the bolting up of my "drag-pipe" which is around 1.5m long and exits just below my rear door about where my SS decals are.
It was Ridiculously loud!! so I made a baffle (read; bolt in step down tube welded to perforated tube with block off on inner end) and that dropped the noise level a bit, but still Stupidly loud. so i removed my baffle, wrapped it in muffler pack and re-inserted it, which has taken off some of the crackly during decelaration after hard acceleration.
to sum it all up, my car with a 17mm spanner and 5min's work can quickly become louder than any of the cars that were at the Hamilton 400, and also make my Harley-Davidson sound "quiet" (i use that term loosely) in comparrison
does that give you an idea???

Hey not to be rude, but how does that help me? I'm not entirely sure of what you're getting at.

The bolts came loose on my 2.5" y-peice on the freeway on return trip from an Easter holiday while towing the camper trailer.
That got thing's rather unbearable in the car. Funny part though was when I was cruising it wouldn't be as bad.
I say funny because there was a pain in the neck right hand lane hogger lady :)
My drivers side was the "LOOSE & LOUD" side :) I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.
I wish I had a camera :). I overtook her or rather chose to keep the left lane and kept driving which happened to mean that I passed her in the left lane, as I cam beside her I floored it just for a moment or two. :rofl2: she nearly jumped out of her skin from shock.
Serves her right for being a road hog. I near drove off the road from laughter. Anyway I wouldn't do it again. Once was enough.

I like your description Jonah101  I wish you could hear sound effects. :)

Speaking of exhaust coming loose mine did it 3hrs from home at about 1am. This is a 355 duel 3" now coming out after the cats! I had the worst headach the next day, combination noise/fumes. Stoped next to cops at light a few times got no idea why i didnt get pulled over. Exhaust only had got put on to so straight back to the exhaust shop.
