G'day, The central locking on the two back doors of my VS doesn't work. Well it unlocks but doesn't lock, and the mechanic said it's costly for such a small thing. So I decided to take off the inside part of the door (the fabricy stuff next to the passenger) and look myself. Now, how do you remove it without destroying it? Cheers,
I think there is a how-to somewhere around here. But basically, just carefully pop out the little red bit on the lock with a small screwdriver and undo the screw behind there. Then using the small screwdriver again pull out the handle bit and undo the 2 screws behind there. From memory thats it for the back doors, they should just pull off (there are a bunch of those push-screws behind it). I probably forgot something there. I can't help with what the problem could be though EDIT: Windows winders!! I knew I would forget something. For electric windows they just have to be unclipped. With manual windows, you can get them off by sliding a rag behind the winder and pulling. Someone else will be able to describe that better, I haven't done it with manual windows for ages
I believe to get manual window winders off you have to stick your small screwdriver behind them and flick the little clip out that holds them on there. Muscling them off will just make a hash of things and they probably wont go back on right.
I'll try explain how to remove the winder. Theres a clip that holds the winder to the mechanism tab, basically what you want to do is push it off with a long skinny sturdy flat head screwdriver. In the pictures below is NOT the exact same clip, but it is similar shaped but smaller (i lost the original clips when i converted lol) You can take a peek at the clip if you push the door card forward and pull the winder back. The clip has 2 ends what you do is use the screwdriver to push each end off, just push one end of the clip a little then push the other end so it will eventually pop off. ...or simply buy a winder remover tool from an auto store which i couldn't be bothered with
