Just wondering if anyone whos got a exec has managed to remove the black side strips from your doors without leaving any marks or damaging the paint or anything and how you went about doing it. Just thinking about removing mine but not sure how tricky it is. Cheers.
yes they are prix to get off and usually snap but once off looks heaps better it will leave goo behind and the only thing that gets it off is a caramel wheel dont even waste ya time with chemicals http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/showthread.php?t=52599&highlight=caramel http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/showthread.php?t=45980&highlight=caramel
sure i just pulled mine straight off and they didn't leave any marks....just had to clean off the glues residue with sum polish and it came up mint!
some people are lucky, others not so lucky. lol im in between my whole drivers side came off nicely although i stuffed up the left side and now theres sika-flex stuck to it
i think u mighta been lucky tho, cos from ur pics, ur strip was below the groove in the door, mine covers the groove and that black glue stuffs into the groove. how did u just pull it off, u woulda had to heat it or sumthin wouoldnt ya? a bloke i knew sed he just heated his strips with a hair drier n most of it came off, n he used terps tp get the rest of the glue off
i tryed turps petrol heatgun kero orangepeel stuff wax/greece remover and nothing worked caramel wheel took it off slowly but took it off
Yeah i've asked a couple of panel beaters and i kinda get the feeling they dont wana do it because its a prick of a job. With the caramel wheel, is it used to remove the uerethan only after the plastic strip is removed? The panel beaters ive spoken to think its easier just to paint the strip to match the car.
the ones i spoke too say dont need to paint use wheel youll be fine i only use good ones not cheep ****ty ones worked fine on my car and a few mates cars was hard work but easy to get it off
Cheers mate. Where did u get your caramel wheel from, and how much was it? I been to repco here and they don't have them, neither did the panelbeater i asked. Will they damage the paint or leave any marks or anything, like how hard do u have to press on the eurethane to get it to come off? Does it kinda slowly grind away at it, or does it take it off in bigger sections? If i can save myself some dollars by doing it this way i'll be happy, rather than getting them painted. Must be a fairly time consuming project...
a freind gave me mine and said crash shops know where to buy them its like a rubber on paper it doesnt touch paper just men marks its not like hrs and hrs of time its like 10 mins a door ya can press hard as ya like it doesnt burn everyone says its burns but they never used one its easy to use just stick it in a drill
yeh i litterally just pulled mine off hey....pickd at it at one end and then lifted the strip up and the glue came off nicely....but yeh if urs has comeoff before and someones stuck it back down wid sikalfex or sumthing its not guna come off as easy as mine....but yeh i musta been lucky coz mine came off wid no worrys at all hey and every bit was the same.... cheers ryan
Had a go at taking off the small strip at the front, under the blinker. Bad Mistake!! All was going well, got it nearly all the way off and it didnt leave much eurothane behind, (i've obviously got eurothane not sikaflex because the orange stuff made to remove it didnt work) but when it got to the end, the last bits in the bottom corner of that strip ripped off and took bloody paint with it!! Really bummed about this cos i've seen and heard everyones success stories, and now my paints ****ed basically. I've still got some black stuff to get off, but it's really spoiled the look by taking the paint. Before i did this i went and bought a new strip from holden, just in case. I guess I'll have to put it back on to cover the missin paint and just get the strips colour coded, more bloody expense, plus makes it obvious that its an exec... :bang: See the pics for the paint missing.
omfg listen orange crap wont work petrol wont work fire wont work my car had the same thing you go caramel wheel is the only thing that gets it off full stop nothing else will touch it your paint isnt ****ed just need wheel rubbed over it and all will be good again
I know what your saying daron, im not worried about the black **** left behind, i know the wheel will get it off, thats not what im worried about. In the pics you might not be able to pick it up properly, but there are 2 spots where the black stuff came off and it pulled paint with it, u can see it on the car, theres a section missing, and on the black stuff theres white pait stuck to it, so it has pulled the paint off. Thats what im worried about. It'd have to be touched up to fix it
hrmm didnt look like paint off but yeah ya f*&^% heheh sorry to see get it touched up noone will know
