isnt it illegal to change the steering wheel if you have airbags?

apparently, but ive researched the how to's pretty heavily on this issue due to the airbag, and its engineered for the same type of car, so i couldnt see any major issues with it, its been done to MAD-LS1, a bolt on 12 sec sv8 in the latest street commodores issue and that was all okay :)

HI Guys,

Pulling off the steering wheel is fairly easy, from memory
1. Disconnect the Battery (and wait a minute) - neutralises the airbag circuit
2. On the back of the steering wheel is 4 clips that hold on the airbag, you'll need a small screwdriver to release them
3. Remove the airbag connector - just pulls off from memory
4. Remove the stereo buttons
5. Undo the centre nut but leave it on a turn and give the wheel a yank, should cone loose, then remove the nut and off she comes, be careful when reinstalling the new wheel as the wiring goes into a clock spring and if you put it in wrong it will break and you'll get an airbag code. It has a green (I think) window to tell you its in the right place.

Note: When removing the airbag be very careful not to have anything in your mouth etc as if it accidently deploys, it will kill you, chances are pretty slim though

These are basically the things i used to get mine off :) its pretty simple once u get the airbag off, ALWAYS remember to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY though :yeah: And the bolt needs a 30mm socket to remove it, before you put the steering wheel all back together first, place the wheel on and go for a slow drive in a quiet street to ensure it is properly aligned then put it back together, this saves alot of heartache

is it easy to put airbag back in, will you have problems with clips
and will you get a airbag warning light come on or anything generally once the airbag has been disconnected

if you dont reconnect the battery while the airbag is out you should be fine :), and the airbag simply clips straight back in like a plug
