im trying to run my amp and speaker cables along the side of the car like i did in my VS but i came across a problem, the VZ has star shaped screws, now thats not a problem as i jammed a flat head in and it turns them, only thing is they just keep turning as though they are stripped, but this cant be for every single screw on both sides of the car, there must be a trick, anyone know what it is?
most of mine are/were stripped, there also is a bit of blank thread near the head of the bolt i think, so you need to lever the head of the bolt up with a screw driver while turning the screw
i tried to pull the plastic up to help lever it out but to no avail, i might steal a fork later while the missus isnt looking and bend it to get under the screw and see if i can pry it out with that. id cry if i damaged my interior any more than i have during this stereo install, i snapped a clip on my glove box allready
i dont mind breaking a few clips, i can replace them lol. ill be making an order from holden on monday i assume, so far ive broke 1 glove box clip and the clip that holds on the plastic triangle on the inside of the passenger side window. with my old VS i didnt realy mind scratching or damaging a few things cause the car was 12 years old and had a fair bit of wear and tear, but its a differant story now with a 3 year old car that is as new inside and out.
just remember if you cant easily lift it out dont pry it out, sometimes theres screws we miss and crack plastics cous we think the trims stuck rember how it all came apart and at which angles you pulled it from and it will be easier next time you do it... Ive stripped my vt interior down to bare carpet and I remember exactly how I did it. Luckily I didnt break anything except the vacumn cleaner that day
im surprised there isnt more how to's on things like this, there is alot for the older commodores but not alot for the VZ, i know alot of it is straight forward things like this silly plastic things with stupid star screws are annoying.
I dont know the reason behind the security screw idea.... Maybe its to stop people stealing the interior? Or maybe its so that people who couldnt unscrew them had to take it to holden and they make more $$$
They're not "security screws", their Torx screws, which are more precise to tighten as there is no likelihood of the Torx driver slipping when installing components. The factory tools are air-driven and develop a fair bit of torque. It is easier to fit the screw or bolt to the end of the driver, then install it, than to try threading it first, then fitting the driver.
well i managed to get them off, it turns out the ends of them were threaded like that had been over tightened, just lifting them a bit then unscrewing was the way to go.
