    Hello
Can anyone give me some pointers as to whether i need to remove the metal bar on the right side of the valley that supports the brace to the Alternator?
My concern is are the bolts holding it in place also part of the head tensioning!
Also any ideas on the best way to remove the pipe into the thermostat housing. so i can free the Manifold to replace the Gasket?
Are there other problems i am likely to encounter?
    Thanks Rusty

You can remove that bar, nothing to do with the heads. With the pipe, grab it with some vice grips then give it a tap with a hammer and it should come out. Just make sure you put some gasket goo in the corners. There are some guides on this forum if you do a search.

    Hello cactus
Thanks for that i will check them out
but have managed to borrow a Manual and it indicated i needed to use a silicon sealant or GG at the corners.
Thanks for your reply I appreciate it

Remove RH plug leads from coils. Remove all other wires, injector leads and fuel lines at back. Fuel lines need special tool for releasing. Remove vacuum lines etc. There should be nothing attached to the inlet manifold that is attached to the engine or body. There are four gasket pieces for the manifold. One for each side and two end pieces. Remove the manifold and using a razor blade remove all the old gasket goo etc, Use sandpaper to remove all. Put sealastic where required on gaskets. Put sealant on bolt hreads to stop hot water leaks. When replacing manifold watch out for trapped wires.
    Have fun.

Thanks for that, especially the tip on the sealant on the thread to stop the hot water leaks, as that is what started this whole escapade!
