I know it doesn't help with you sourcing the parts required to repair your gearbox, but if needed, I could help you out getting them palletted ready for freight...

From memory, the last gearbox I had sent to me from Port Lincoln to Adelaide set me back around the $100 mark...So something for you to consider....:)

SS Commodore - Ford Territory ... both camps
does it have a clutch thrust bearing ?
Yeah, but it's quiet and free-spinning. There's no noise whatsoever in 4th so it seems likely to be associated with the lay shaft and its bearings.

Thanks mate, yeah I'll keep my eye on east coast options. Got quoted $1200 (exchange!) for a used box here in WA!

Ah, there is nothing like junking your ride for peanuts because it’s got a stuffed gearbox only to find out the wrecker who picked it up sold that same stuffed gearbox for $1200 exchange… and then they flip the exchange box to another sucker for $1200 :p:p:p

(yes, an assumption that the $1200 box is from a wrecker but the joke plays better that way)

Seriously, I’ve had wreckers tell me they rebuild them yet won’t provide anything more than a 3 month warranty… so I suspect it’s not rebuilt and they just take the punt it will last a couple of months… But if a wrecker can rebuild a box, I‘d want a warranty of more than a few months… And if they can rebuild it, presumably spares (bearings, synchros & seals) are still available so you should be able to rebuild yours yourself (at least to the same standard but at a much lower cost) ;)

That was my first thought. Why the F do they want an exchange on a second hand box! Dodgy af.
