3.8lt VS Manual Ute
Hey guys,
I apologise if this has been covered already. I recently purchased a manual VS V6 ute, yesterday some of the diff spat itself out of the housing. When I took the diff plate off I discovered the previous owner had welded the diff..
I've been investigating and replacing the diff guts sounds more trouble than just swapping the whole rear end over. I know I can go to pick and pay less pick get a rear end off a wagon and it will fit into the ute
My question is can,
can the rear diff and axle off a auto V6 bolt straight on to a manual V6 ?

I think you will find that the standard ratios for an auto diff are not really suitable for a manual. Auto is 3.08:1 and manual is 3.27:1. Your car would be somewhat sluggish if you installed the auto diff.

They're all 3.08 in a VS (pretty much VN - VT1). V6, V8, auto and manual. Only the really super special rarish HSVs got some other ratio.

Just to support what RJK has suggested, all 6 Cylinder vehicles with Beam and IRS rear axles were fitted the 3.08 ratio, as quoted from the VR Service Manual Vol 1 and VS is simply a carry over.

Yep. Been there done that many times which is how you learn. Now I'm a tradesman (mechanic) in my 30's I don't make mistakes as often but when I do I always admit I'm wrong and feel grateful that I learnt something for the day.
