My mech is saying the only things that could make the engine just shut off like that is the CAS, coil pack or computer chip, looks like im gonna go get another chip unless u guys can help me otherwise this is drivin me nuts!

It's a 96 VS V6 with 222000 on the clock, never had a problem till now.

Yep, fuel pump will cause similar symptoms.

Mmm from what i've read a dodgy fuel pump will cause it to stop completely.

I didn't say whether it started or again or not, but it does, it starts again after a few minutes. One thing i've noticed is that when i leave the car out in the sun it tends to shut off sooner than normal, for whatever reason, i dont know.

Something i read about was these cars are sensitive to how well the battery is serving it's purpose. So i changed the battery to another 2nd hand one. And i dont know if it's fixed anything, and i dont think it will, but it's still doing something it was before which is it struggles to start and takes a few seconds before it actually does.

After researching these are the only things i can think of that might fix it.

    ignition module
    cam angle sensor
    computer
    coolant temperature sensor

My mech said the only things that could possibly make it shut off are the DFI, CAS or the ECU so next thing im probly gonna have to do is change the chip for a 2nd hand one.

Have you checked error codes? If the car stalls it should be logging an error code. Normally this fault is the cas, but dfi module is tied in closely with it. I would replace that first. DIY from wreakers easy enough. Whoever told you that bit about the battery is telling you crap.

Check your ignition immobliser..... that ****s VR's/VR's up sometimes...

and the rest, CAS, DFI, Pump... heat would indicate faulty CAS.

Check the ring around your barrel

    aZk.

Been through similiar with a VR, turned out to be DFI module as well as a sus fuel pump and a faulty CAS just to make things interesting. After replacing all 3 hasn't missed a beat.

Well this is the history of mine. Replaced the CAS then the coil pack and DFI, still didn't fix it, kept stalling, changed the battery to another 2nd hand one but in better condition than the one before and now it's fixed!!
