    Hi to all,

    My history:

I changed my VS II to a three window cluster, which needed wiring modifications.

I then changed my VY II to a three window cluster, which just entailed a Tech2 programming.

I heard all the negativity about difficulties with doing the same to the VE, and was not game to try. Hated the VE SV6 cluster with a vengeance, particularly the nitrate one that I had. It was almost unusable as the small white on very light grey numbering were hard to read, and the red lighting flared badly with my aging eyes.

The Series II SV6 cluster was a huge improvement. However, it still had red lighting in the central panel. I also still desired the additional information offered in the three window clusters.

After some research, I decided to go for it in my VE II SV6. Picked up a new Series II Calais cluster from an Ebay trader. The foreman at the local dealer expressly showed interest - top marks. I picked the vehicle up today. The cluster works perfectly. Total cost less than $400.

I know that most on here would want HSV clusters, but if anyone just wants the three window trip computer functions, the Calais cluster in the Series II seems as straight forward as it was for the VT to VZ.

    Hi,

I have a pic, but it is too big to attach on this website. I don't have a photo editor to reduce it.

From research, I came to the conclusion that it could be done - with the help of an instrument expert. The local dealer foreman was keen to give it a go as he had been unsuccessful with changing a cluster in a Series I VE.

I sourced an MY11 Calais cluster by enquiries, and sought a part number. It turned out the part number was probably a manufacturing part number and not a "spare part" number, so I could not confirm that it was the right one with the local dealer. I decided to trust the supplier due to his good Ebay record. The rest is history.

I am totally happy with the finished product. The cluster works as advertised, and in addition to the extra trip computer information is much clearer to read.

If anyone would like before/after pictures, please PM a Gmail address as I have found those best for larger files.

is it just simply swapping clusters over to get the extra info or do you have to do extra wiring and other stuff?

No wiring. Just a Tech2 programming of the cluster after installation.

We're working on Tech2-less programming of the VDO clusters (black back, late VE series 1 & series 2) over on CarModder.

The Series 1 Australian Arrow clusters (with the white back) can already be DIY programmed without a Tech2.

I've got an MY12 SS-V and I'm thinking about putting the Calais cluster in. Was that $400 including installation of the cluster by Holden?

How? Buy the cluster and get your local dealer to install/program it! What could go wrong.

Just did the same with my SV6 II. Also had the IQ screen changed to blue to match.

Clearly not all dealers have the same info. I just rang Booran in Dandenong and was told that it's not possible to change the screen colour. Quoted $180 for programming and install of the new dash though.

Looking a lot better in my opinion.
Now if it was only just as simple to replace those round vents.
Don't know what holden were thinking with those vents on the sports variants.
