Currently i have a 1995 vs ute which needs the auto trans replaced, the vin tells me its a 95 but i cant tell what the auto code is , the sticker is missing , can i stll identify it ? I belive it should me a 5hdd ? A friend has a 6hdd tranny that has come out of a vs 95 sedan and the vin number conferms this. my qustion is can you put a 6hdd were a 5hdd was??. because it looks like you can. ??
I have just replaced a 5HDD with a 6HDD in my son's VR it won't engage in any gear. the only difference i could see was the speedo wiring at the rear of the box so i haven't connected it yet. Could that not being connected stop it from engaging in gear?
No See this thread... May be your issue: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...97/200619-vr-v6-no-gears-all-help-needed.html If this no help give the sites search function a try as there are quite a few that have had similar issues.
the vss being unplugged will effect the trans and it won't change gears as it won't know what speed it is doing, should still be able to select 1st and move though (it just won't change to 2nd etc when accelerating)
They say ID number Example (6HDD-7HDD) depends on what year it was made rounded off. Mine was late 96 model vs and it had a 7HDD being a late 96 model and i able replace it with a 6HDD and it works fine. i would say if its a very late 95 year model Ute then it will take a 6HDD, but if its an early early 95 i would say just replace it with another 5HDD, or put the 6HDD in and go to your local wreckers and pull a computer from a VS sedan that has a 6HDD in it, you can check the auto box code by looking down the back of the engine right hand side of the firewall.
