Yeah. It socks. I already replaced the stretched timing chains a couple of years back and replaced the transmission last year so very frustrating. I have replaced half the car in the 14 years I have owned it lol.
Try an auto electrician to fit & link the ecu.

Read the link @lout posted earlier. He is an auto electrician.

Ha, I was wondering that. It seemed Lout had a lot of knowledge with things auto electrical. Now I know.

I bought a second hand ECU thinking that would just be able to go to a mechanic and get them to link it. But I am being told that they dont want to do it unless I have the whole kit (PIMM BCM etc).
Like BlackVXGTS said, the ECU can be linked, but generally mechanics don't want to play around with electronics, particularly if they're more into spanner spinning. They'll ask for the complete set because they can just swap it in and not have to delve into the electronics side of using a Tech2/expensive scan tool (or they just don't have one). TBH though, it seems the complete swap doesn't work as smoothly as many times as it does. There are definitely people in Melbourne who can link it for you, you might just have to look for somewhere a little more specialist than the local.

Injectronics should also be able to repair your original, they will have done a fair few:

I don't understand why you think you have a dead ECU and need a replacement. Perhaps you can provide your rationale.
See this Envyous post:

Suuuper common issue. There used to be a good Injectronics technical bulletin about it but I can't find it now. They were failing in droves from about 2016ish onwards (but I'm sure plenty before then too), basically the reason why I was telling people not to buy V6 VZs as it's just a pain of a problem to deal with (at least VE timing chains are readily available and not so specialist). Even while Holden was actively stocking spares there were constant shortages (even at wreckers) on VZ V6 ECUs with like 6+ month waits because there was an epidemic of them failing. The VZ V6 ECUs ran very hot, so it really wasn't super smart to then attach them to the front of an engine.

That’s a very clever fix you found Lout well done.
Erad if you have already bought the ECM I’ll attempt it for you for no charge. I haven’t done it before to be honest but can’t hurt to try. I have a Tech2 and a Snap-on scan tool. I do remember reading a Snap-on PDF saying they need to be reset before removing from original car but again I don’t know, is that even possible? What was supplied with the ECM? I think the tech2 requires the security no but pretty sure the Snap-on one can retrieve them anyway. Or am I completely wrong and it’s the PIM security no needed? I’m currently not working much and have plenty of time to spare.
Figured I’d offer anyway
Also if you have already got it done keep your old one, sell as is or send it in for repairs when u have spare coin

Hi, the electrician I saw was trying to tell me it couldnt be done and that I would need to put the whole kit in. I must have gone to one that didnt want to do it I am guessing. Yes I read that post but really want to link the ECU I bought. Thanks

Hi. Thank you. I will check that out when I get home from work. Thank you.

Hi. Yes read something about them needing to be reset. I have asked the seller if it was and have not heard back yet. I only received just the actual ECU box. I will check it out more when I get home from work. Thanks again.

the bypass i made cures all of the ecu symptoms that op is experiencing, if vehicle is started within a few seconds of turning ignition to reds
it cures the service vehicle soon, extremely low fuel. as well as the intermittent no crank
to link a used ecu it must be unlinked before removing from donor vehicle
then you need the security number of the bcm
it is much more difficult than earlier models

Hi. Thanks. Maybe I will have to go down that road then if I cannot get the ECU linked. I guess I've always just liked things to be as original as possible.
Thanks, I really appreciate the replies. Cheers
