I bought a new diff and just wondering how hard would it be to replace this myself? Would it be necessary to remove the whole IRS cradle to get to the diff? Is there enough room to get a socket onto the bolts holding the diff with the cradle still in the vehicle? Any tips and advice appreciated. Also how much should I expect to pay a mechanic to do this for me?
umm im picking a lsd for my vs tomorrow^_^ and hopefully it wont be too had just bit woried about droping the orginal diff onto my arm or something like that after i unbolt it lol. but if all goes to plan i will most likely post a how-to^_^.....will i need to change the oil or anything like that?
i got a 20ltr drum of the good stuff here:thumbsup:...so would i just tip the old stuff out and pour the new stuff in then bolt the diff in?
is it irs or live axel? if it non irs and once you pull the shafts outs, you will need to remove the shims spacing the diff, then you will have to lever out the centre, when you put it back together make sure you put the shims back in the right way
yea but how much would i have to put in...also after just looking under my car i noticed that the rubber sleve thing that covers where the pole looking thing to the center has busted and theres grease up on the chassis etc from spinning around. is this something to really worry about?
You should get the boot replaced. Either take the car to your mechanic or buy a service manual that will give you a step by step instructions on fitting it. Reaper
There are two plugs/bolts. There's an oil checking one and oil draining one. Keep filling up til the oil's filled to the height of the lower plug. You will need an oil pump to do it, or you can rig up some contraption. Otherwise, find out the diff oil filling capacity from a workshop manual or similar. I don't have mine handy, but some good samaritan might. Changing diff oil is very easy, but oft neglected.
well turns out i have to replace the center lol so now i will have to fill the diff up with new oil...i got a oil pump btw, i will check it all out tomorrow.^_^
