I have just received my memcal back from the tuner. He says the revs at idle should be set at 950-1000 at idle. Is this normal? The cam is a Camtech 248-520.

I have a crow 664 or 665 (will have to double check) in my 6 cyl carbed engine....I have the idle set at 700 - 800RPM (again, will have to double check) ...IMA I'm running a manual gearbox, so I can set the idle a little lower than an auto

Don't know whether this helps you or not

Thanks, mine is an auto so perhaps would run a bit higher. I don't doubt the tuner, he is held in high regard. It's just that I have never had a car that idled that high

Still the standard torque convertor?

In gear or park/neutral?

I had bushpig f280 in sle idled 12oo'ish neutral/park then 1000'ish in gear according to rev tacho...any lower it would want to stall unless it was operating temp although big ol stally helped it heaps untill touched brakes.

vp ute has some crossbred 268/276 cam idles around 900-1000 neutral/park & probably 700- 800'ish according to archaic vp rev tacho...does want to push on stock stally.

I wouldn't worry as long as it's running smooth & doesn't stall or push on convertor when in gear...with new setups they'll change as you find & fix or change things untill it's all sorted outed & reliable.

When car is finished later on down track data log it running/driving send back data they can then touch up the memcal tune.

Camtech's no longer around so can't check the grind specs but if it's 248 degrees @.050 and .520" lift to get the spec number I'd honestly be pretty impressed if could have it idling at 950 and nicely.

Sounds about right.

If anything 1000-1050 would be ideal for that cam however if it's behaving then I wouldn't worry about it.

My 276 idles at around 800RPM with how I've got it tuned at the moment (because who doesn't like some chop chop) and it's a bit of a pig cold and can get pretty rough with the stock converter especially now winters setting in. I need to get around to raising it at some point.
