Contributing to justcomm doesnt have to be a prerequisite for gross ignorance on other areas of society, but it certainly appears a common factor. I dont think all those guys with 1200W subwoofers in the boot of their comms want them to hear the deeper rasps of Mr Guest. The reports are he was healthy? but did he have any unspecified problems that hadnt been detected? In view about commenting about the death of Mr Guest here at justcomm. It was on every news bulletin in the country, so why not in the pub indeed.
First of all it is a sad passing of a fantastic performer, his death has shattered the performing arts industry. To help you understand your comparison on post counts of the two threads you have included, i think the vast majority of posters on JC are late Gen X and Gen Y which i would summize would be safe to say have not heard of Rob Guest. I dont think your comment on mindset of these individuals isnt entirely fair but i would agree with the sentiment.
It is extremely sad to see an entertainer of his calibre to pass, but it does happen to us all at one point or another. The metallica thread is nearly a month old, this thread is 12 or so hours old! Where's the comparison?
Rufus Fair point, but after a month, this thread will probably be fish wrapper due to overall lack of interest. Metallica is likely to go for a while. It just goes to illustrate the demographics of this forum (ie, principally younger members). that was all the point I was making. Nothing more
Could be something in that, knew about Rob but have no idea what the Metallica reference is (haven't really looked either). Sure i know who metallica are, and can assume someone died but nothing to do with me being young or old (i consider myself young!). Unfortunate that i missed out o seeing him perform, the could of shows we've been to see he's not been in for one reason or another - shows were still fantastic i must add though.
Actually, I take back a little of what I posted before. Its not entirely unreasonable for our younger members of the population(and this forum) to have not heard of Rob Guest, it doesnt really mean they are uncultured, simple etc. Just as there would be many people who havent heard of Metallica or could name the lead singer amongst the older members of society I suppose what has got a few people's back up is the idea that just because some individuals dont know of the person then their life isnt worth honoring/mentioning etc.
I have to endorse Minux's comments regarding Rob Guest and his contribution to the arts (don't faint Minux!). For those who were fortunate enought to have seen him in any of his operas, you were treated to one of the very best male performers Australia has produced in recent years and would have appreciated his brilliance at his art. CSP - yep, Warlow is good, but whether he was the only Phantom is debatable. Guest had few critics in that role.
True... And I really shouldn't pass judgement as I have only seen performance in the roll of Phantom by Anthony Warlow and Michael Crawford. Bottom line, it's always a tragedy to society when someone with a huge amount of talent in the art world passes. It leaves a hole in the industry and means that the talent will never been seen live again...
