looks good mate-great base to start

definitely recommend the anti detonation kit as a mate has a almost identical patrol except a 07 and he had to replace the head and all gaskets etc as she started to play up when 4wding, has since done a bit of work including the kit which monitors all temps, plus 2 diff temps for the block and one for the coolant and so far has been ok.

anyways don't want to ruin your day so good luck

looks good. I bet it's going to take some getting used to being up so high.

definitely recommend the anti detonation kit

the 2.8's and 3.0 litres have a big reputation for blowing the 2nd or 3rd cylinder not sure which one but can be quite a costly exercise to fix,all the info you need should be on the net,
most are caused by overheating due to a small motor pulling or pushing a large amount of weight especially if using 4wd a lot or towing

Yeah mate it is but it's in good shape.

Cheers mate.

Yeah boost and pyro gauges will be going on ASAP to at least get an idea on what's going on.

Not really for me, I've been driving my parents patrol since my learners so I know their size. Plus theirs has been my daily lately too.

Yeah the 00-01 were particularly bad, Nissan upped the sump capacity from 5 to 8 liters as a recall and there is minor occurrences past 02 but not very widespread compared to 00-01.
They tend to do it due to overboost and having high exhaust temps melting holes in pistons. The ECU was revised in 03 for better ECU boost control which fixed most problems. The exhaust gas recirculating to pass emissions testing also caused problems causing overheating cylinders particularly 3 and 4.
There's things that have to be looked out for but it's all fixable.

As above its pistons 3-4 but yeah that's pretty much it. Plenty of info on the net to stop it happening.

Started installing my stereo yesterday and plan to get at least most of it done tonight.
List for tonight is:
-run RCA's to rear amp location (in Rear quarter panel)
-mount amp in RQP
-terminate power cable into amp
-install ground cable
-use lighter socket for remote
-cut power cable and install circuit breaker
-cut plate to mount circuit breaker to
-run new speaker wires from amp into doors (drivers door is supposed to be painful)
-install speakers
-run USB cable to under dash somewhere
-probably more that I haven't thought of
