I ran the VS out of petrol today as i wanted to make sure it only had a 60 Litre tank I rang the Missus to bring me some more Motion Lotion When i started the car and drove off the Engine Management Light was on and the Auto would not shift into overdrive I thought S_H_I_T whats wrong now After about 6 kms the Engine Management Light went out and it all seemed normal again So now all you smart Commodore people out there What went on with my car I did try to start the engine a few times to see if it would suck up some Juice
have you checked your error codes yet? since the light come on, it would have logged a code, check it out and it will tell you exactly what was at fault.
well...you have just sucked all the crap out of the bottom of your fuel tank when its empty and left the fuel pump unlubricated while trying to turn over the engine...thats bound to cause a issue or two.
All us smart Commodore people would have taken some fuel with us if we were going to run it out to see how much the tank held. Also, we would have checked the error codes to see what was logged.
I'm not smart :whistling I would NEVER run my car out of fuel, I get scared running it below 1/4 tank Why would you "make sure it had a 60L tank" can you not check the net for info or read a manual?
I would say it just ran lean as the fuel supply dried up and set an O2 sensor fault code. Not an issue at all. Better not to run the pump dry like that though if you can avoid it, though as it tends to shorten the pump life.
Personally i would've just gone by how many litres of petrol i put in. If you on a 1/4 and still manage 55L you know you have an 80L tank.....
How do you check error codes in a car? Isn't that a computery thing to do or can you hook up the puter into the engine?
Just Commodores - For All Your Holden Commodore Needs use a paper clip on pin 5 and 6 it will flash the codes
limp mode sucks ass, happend 2me a few times after i ahd to quicky move from a standing start, car was in park and i slammd it in drive, i drove like that for 10 km and pulld over and turnd it off then on again and everything was fine
Hey its all a learning experience In the old days if you run out of petrol you put more in the tank Cranked the engine for 5 mins to get the fuel pump to suck it up and off you go Now a light comes on the only GMH know about and if you want it checked will cost you 5 million dollars
Ypu must have run the fuel pump dry, and they over heat without fuel cooling it.... just a suggestion.
