Hi all, As a newer member of this group, I was taking some time to read through some older posts and figured, I've yet to have a rant. For years the annoying VT boot niagara water falls was p'ing me off to no end. After coming across a post last night, I had no idea that there were any drain holes at the bottom of the boot lid, mine were completely painted over. So I got the old screw driver out and cleared the holes and found a nice line of rust bubbling through the entire length of the bottom inner boot lip! Nice job Holden. I'll be taking the garnish out at some point to see the extent of the rust, may need a new boot lid, may not. I'm just really annoyed at Holden, that something like this would be let passed a QC on a new car, not to mention the miriad of other design flaws of course. I hope it's been sorted on the newer models. Interesting that in all the years I have had the car serviced/repaired by the Holden dealer I bought it from, not once have they mentioned this, even whilst replacing rear bulbs at practically every service. Once again, thanks to this site for opening my eyes and hopefully averting more potentially expensive repairs in the future. Here endeth the rant.
It's not a design fault, its a QC issue. If the car has never been resprayed, write Holden a letter, you have nothing to lose but a stamp.
rust around the boot are is a common problem with commodores since day zip. i have seen late model fords and holdens that are rusted out behind the boot lip seal. definitly write holden. maybe speak to your dealer, ifyou get on well with the guy he might sort it for ya
The innner edge of the boot lid on my brother vs wasn't folded over properly in the factory and rusted out along there
