All day job though.

so my car is not in the recall build time (jul 2016) but rarely ill get a service steering column notification that will disappear after I turn it off? (

happened either twice or thrice in over a year of ownership.

I noticed pulling on the wheel as you get out locking the steering wheel which puts pressure on the locking mechanism causes it to some times pop that message when you start.

I have only ever had it on the push button start variant never on a key start one.

Its my guess the locking mechanism gets bound up a bit and causes the message because it thinks something is wrong.

I’ve had the warning on start-up, I don’t recall pulling on the steering wheel while pressing the start button but it’s very possible I was.
If anything stops the steering lock from engaging or disengaging or it detects any friction doing so, the message appears. I guess it’s possible that the steering lock would need replacement (but dunno if it could need lubrication?).

It’s a completely different thing to the stuff affected by the recall.

I double checked when I was at Holden and mine is definately not part of the recall, Sep13. I'm glad I've had mine done, but feel for those with early builds that may have a fight on their hands.

not pulling on the wheel when you are starting it.
pulling on the wheel as you get out after stopping it so the wheel locks with pressure from the column/rack trying to turn the wheel back which applies pressure on the locking mechanism causing it to bind the next time you start the vehicle and it attempts to unlock the wheel.

I've had that message pop up, but it was 'service steering column lock'.

In older steering locks designs that were key operated, you could feel through the hand when there was a binding occurring within the lock pin (as it was hard to turn the key). Instinctively you’d tug on the wheel while turning the key and all would be ok.

Unfortunately with electronic steering lock, there is no instinctive tug if any binding was occurring. Yo just get a pop up message in general DIC indicating 5hat a binding has occurred (and sending you to the dealer product centre).

Obviously it could be programmed so that the EPS motor provides a tug on the wheel, as occurred when meatbag brains were involved, but where’s the profit in that

My 3/2014 Calais V was done yesterday (originally booked in last week but i had to reschedule). Had car all day and i got their courtesy bus to and from. I can tell my front wheels were off as those two locknuts are in different spots. All seems ok.
