that's no true if driving under 25 kph or in reverse you do not need to wear a seatbelt

a VT doesn't have that warning or does it i will check on my VX tomorrow

The seat belt warning only lights up for a few seconds when you first start the car, as a reminder. It doesn't light up if you unbuckle your seat belt.

My VX light just comes on for a few seconds then goes off regardless.

According to the Australian Road Rules, any time the car is moving you need to wear a seatbelt [rule 264] unless you're reversing [264(2)(a)]. The 25km/h thing only appears to come into it if you're a delivery driver [267(2)].
