Well Thursday the 23rd will now be know as the day my car BURST INTO FLAMES. Was driving down seaford road towards my house (that's a 60 k road by the way which all ways has cops so i never speed on it) when i noticed i was leaving a trail of smoke which was get tin worse as i went on so i pulled into a street near my house and that's when fire started coming out near the pass angers side headlight and the cabin started filling with smoke. I went to slam on the breaks but nothing happened so i just slammed it into park and turned it off (yea I know bad choice but hey there was ****in fire comin out the front of my car not cool) I had to get the bonnet up to put the fire out so took a risk and did it any way (yes i know another bad idea mybe) think i may have burnt my hands alittle but at the moment thats the least of my worries when i opend the bonnet the whole left hand side of the engin bay was on fire and it soon spread to the underneath of the bonnet. As i was calling the fire dep 2 guys rocked up with in a 4by with a fire extinguisher but it was empty another guy cam running out his house with one to and we got some of the fire out but then it ran out so i went door knockin and we got a hose and finally got it out just a 3 fire trucks rocked up this was all in the space of about 5mins or so it happened pretty ****in fast. Um yeah so to sum it up my car wont be makin it to C4C4. Any one got any ideas as to what my have caused this? engin wise this car was stock as a rock s1 vs berlina all Ive put on was the CAI and last time i check I hadn't coated it in petrol. Know what I'm doin tonight I'm hitting the ****in pub. Heres some pics markie n geoff took plenty of pics last night so they will post up more. more to come
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! If you want I can help you with the wiring loom repair... Trip the the wreckers, Some electrical tape, heatshrink & solder.. Your loom will be as good as new... Take the engine cover off... Point 1... Find out if it was a fuel fire... Check the fuel lines.. Cheers MaT
well radiator is fine lol look it even has coolant in it and still got oil, can see why i couldnt stop brake lines on the passangers side are melted and the reservoir had started to burn. oh and any one wanna buy a CAI Just calling the AAMI now, heres hoping for a good out come if not expect alot of vs parts to go up for sale.

if insurance dont wanna play ball, seriously, dont sell out, there doesnt look to be that much damage. Like yeah its a little ****ed but its still reapairable. Wait till insurance says there **** then pull all the ****ed parts off and see waht needs replaceing, youll be able to get almost 100% ofthe parts from wreckers cheap or through this forum. Plus theres heaps of memebers in vic, myslef included which'll help out to fix her up again. Lucky it didnt spread much further mate, chin up, its set back but at least youve got most of the car left and theres no panel damage... just a few bits and a lick of paint. aZk.
There is a write up in the vr-vs section about something similar happeing to other people aswell! it was caused by the red wire comeing from the alternator it comes loose and then startes to heat up and melt but in most cases the car just stops with minor smoke from under the hood but i think in your case its heated up and set fire to the engine cover! it was a common fault on the vs according to the sticky so everyone keep this nasty little cable in check. i know that the fire by the way isnt on the side of the alternator but if the wire has been loose it may have melted & shorted on the other side, best way to tell would be to pull the engine cover off and have a look at the red cable behind the alternator and see if she is loose or if the wireing has melted! i will bet this was an electrical fire.

Well AAMI comes on monday to pick it up to assess it and what they decide will dictate what ill do worst come to worst it will be a right off and ill get a new car (well im lookin to go old actually) and if things work out real well i might try and resurrect her with a 5ltr Yeah Id herd of the alternator thing before and that was the first thing I gave a once ova seams fine though, thinkin mybe leaky injector rail or ive also be told that the transcooler pipe can leak and cause this as well, my mate works at AAMI and told me they will tell me what caused it when they have been ova the car so I guess ill know for sure when the report comes back. Yeah Im still comin on C4C4 just won't be in my car unless some one wants to tow me? hahah pitty it didnt go up in flames on the cruise would of made the mag for sure haha.
Hahah yeah... You wont put a 5ltr in it... and with $4100 from insurance if u get a pay out, you wont get ur mustang lol. It will be quite a few years before that happens. But yeah ill catchya tmoz for c4c4 Penis...

awww pour lil vs hmm i better look out for mine then :s just rebuild it from the bottom up and find out what the main prob was. let us know what the prob was mate so i can have a look at mine b4 i cop it 2 and i dont want it to happen coz mines special to me as every1's ride is special to them. thanks mate
Yeah if I find out the cause I will most def post it up for every1 but in the mean time I urge every1 to invest in a fire extinguisher seriously I will be.
Well it wont be getting rebuilt by me got the call today to tell me its a write off im going down on thursday to sign some papers and what not so ill try and find out what started it then, ****in bastards trying to make me pay for the towing to altona where they write it off and sell it good luck with getting me to pay that ****s. well my plans are to get my money off AAMI save for abit mybe reborrow alittle on my loan then invest my time and effort in a nice v8 and first thing ill get for it is a bloody fire extinguisher infact might get that before the car never know when the pushie might burst into flames
