Seems like no spark, I can hear fuel pump BUT no kick >>?

Last very hot Saturday I drove to Sydney from the Central Coast speeds not over 100km, i kept my eye on the TEMP all good there / plenty of oil / plenty of water, soon as i pulled off the expressway thru Turramarra all car dash lights turned on,engine power dropped off DEAD, steering hard very hard,pulled over in quite lane used hand brake to stop, let car cool down, tried to start the car , car turning over no spark or fuel kinda sound, i kept trying till battery flat, next day battery recharged i popped the spark leads off at coil end cleaned/sand pappered nipples on coil, than I popped the spark leads off at engine check them , back in car kicked her over & she went, drove 1km she stopped tried kicking car over same sound no fuel/spark again,next day recharged battery sanded nipples again & she started put car in reverse & she stopped again, now kicking her over getting the no fuel/spark sound again battery dead again >???? I'm thinking coil >>?? any ideas >>??

 

OK fixed the car, first thing i did is got under car around the fuel tank placed my hand over the fuel filter got my mate to turn the key forward, I could here the fuel pump so all good there & felt fuel passsing thru the filter so all good there, next I replaced the coil & the car started. I must say the car has never ran this good before, very happy & would like to say thanks to my mate who helped me >>> uno who you are, cheers.
