So can I just bolt the series 1 ECU box into the car for my series 2 motor?

    Yes it does work.
The cooling motor fan was working when the motor wasn't on and the yellow engine light was on while the motor was running and flicking on and off and someone said to check the code to see what code was showing 12 12 12 all ok there. Someone said to replace the Temp sender unit. I changed it and the fan stop. The following day the fan started to start again while the motor was off. "BUGGAR" So I replaced the coil pack thinking it may have been that. "WRONG" That didnt fix the problem. So I changed the ECU "WOOHOO" That fixed it. Bloody old cars.

Thanks for all your help everyone, Cheers
