    Hey guys,

When I bought my WH Statesman (with 173,000kms), after a couple of days I was having a look at the owners manual and went to have a look at the Service history, but for some strange reason all of the service pages had be ripped out and even the little tabs that are supposed to stay in the book were cut out with a knife or something. Why would the previous owners do that? Only thing I can think of is if it missed a few services. But I must say that inside the engine is as clean as anything and the service reminder on the dash is still up to date (once it hit 179,000kms it came up that it was due for the 180,000kms service).

Also, the guy I bought it off said that the front was resprayed because it had heaps of stone chips, but then later on when it went for a wheel alignment I was told that the left side of the car was completely out as if it hit a curb really hard.

Then I had a pannel beater tell me that the left rear quarter pannel has been repaired before, and I removed the tail light to change a globe and the tail light had a sticker with a date of ?/?/2005. The car was also re-registered in December 2005.

So i'm guessing that my Statesman was involved in a car accident of some sort in 2005 (but I can't think of why it was re-registered). Also with the service book was a card from a pannel beater in Nunawading, so I figured that that is the pannel beater that repaired the Statesman.

When I bought the car he previous owner said that his boss owned it, and then sold it to him, which he then gave the car to his wife, but she didn't like driving it because it was too big, then he was going to give it to his dad but he was worried that someone would key it or pull the front hood ornament off, so he decided to sell it.

Anyway, does anything sound sus or do you think that I could find out anymore information from anyone about the history of the car?

The details that a Holden Dealer gave me is this:

REG NO: RFU*** (but then it changed in 2005).
    REG STATE: VIC
    VIN: 6H8WHY***********
    TAG NO: L79****
    ENG NO: VA******

    SERIES: WH STATESMAN SEDAN
    MODEL: 8WY19
    ENGINE: 3.8 LITRE V6
    TRANS: 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC
    TRIM: 81I ANTHRACITE
    PAINT: 11U HERON WHITE
    BUILD DATE: 08/11/2011

    WARRANTY START DATE: 12/11/2001
SELLING DEALER: BLOODS OF HAMILTON (HAMILTON) (so I doubt that it was repaired in NSW and then sold in VIC).
    BUYER TYPE: 06

    PACK: 414

    OPTIONS: 4BB, A9W, AJ7, AV0, AV1, AX2, B13, CJ2, CX5, FE1, GU4, JL9, LN3, M30, NP5, NV7, PF4, QXC, RHD, U4B, U72, UR9, VA1, W1Y, W4U.

I think there are lies being told. ....

Call the panel beater and local Holden dealers. See what they can tell you.

Check vehicle details before purchase : VicRoads you can check here if it was a write off.

Even call the previous owner and ask him about the vehicle history again. See if he denies accidents and repairs. Doubt without legal assistance you could do anything, but it always pays to check in advance.

    liquid moly LS1

Hey for everyone with a noisy ls1 I just put a bottle of liquid moly in and can't believe it. It has reduced the noise dramatically. I always thought those mechanic in a bottle were **** (and they probally are) but it has worked. The engine has done 187000 and has never been do quiet. I've been using penrite 10w 40w. Finally happy now.

Yeah I went on VicRoads website before I purchased the car and it said that it wasn't stolen, wasn't written off and didn't owe money. But if they didn't call the insurance company then how would VicRoads know if the car has been in an accident or has been written off.

Panel beater would be the best clue.

What's with the total random comment above?

Yeah I might give them a call tomorrow and see if they have any record of what repaired they have done to the car.

I have no idea, I was going to reply with "cool story bro" haha.

Just found something else that has got me thinking, on the bottom of the card it says: Please note that this preliminary report must be handed to your fleet manager as soon as possible.

Maybe a company purchased this car as a fleet car, nothing has been printed on the very first page of the owners manual BUT there is 2 staples where there probably was the information of the original purchaser.

ring them with the vin number they should have records of all the jobs they do there, Cars can be repaired then VIV inspected and struck off the written off register its very difficult to find out. Even harder to check if the car came from interstate.

Yeah i'm going to ring them tomorrow when I get to work and ask them if they have any info. To be honest, I don't think the car has ever left Victoria before, it was sold at Hamilton, VIC and has been registered twice (both vic plates), but then again, with no information in the owners manual and the service intervals missing (so I can't see the address stamped) its really hard to say.

You know where it was originally sold. Call the dealer. The panel beater has a phone and may still have some info. There are only a few lease companies that will part with information, but try ringing a few and see if they can assist.

Ill call the pannel beater tomorrow morning and see if they have any info and then ill call the Holden dealer in Hamilton and see if they have any service history records. There is a few companies that lease vehicles and I know because where I work, we service heaps of their cars, a few of the companies are Reece Plumbing, Burbank Homes, Downers EDI, Corke Instruments. But I know there are a few more like Telstra, Orix, etc.

Ok so I have some new information. The car was originally purchased by W.T.H. Car Rental, but they couldn't give me the service history due to privacy laws. The panel beater told me that it had the left rear quarter panel repaired and a new rear bumper bar and tail light.
