Just about to book my car in for a service and I got thinking.

Standard intervals are 6 months or 5000km, whichever comes first.

In my case, the 6months ALWAYS comes first as I think I've only covered about 2000km since my last service.

Given this, would I be fine to extend my intervals to 12months or 5000km?

Just seems like a waste of time and money to service a car every 6 months if it's covering bugger all km.

    Thoughts?

Ive always serviced my cars every 5000km. Whether I do that 5000km in 2 months or 12 months. I think the whole 'service every 6 months' thing is a bit of overkill if you only do say 2000km/6months as you say. I understand the whole 'the oil breaks down over time even if not used' thing that people claim but Im very doubtful of it degrading to standard that it needs replacing in 6 months. Id go for 12 months/5000km if I were you :)

I'd suggest that you just get an oil and filter change at 6 months then at 12 months a more detailed service - if that's what you prefer.

Provided you're using fully synthetic oils when you're doing your service I reckon you'd be right to go the 12 months - synthetic seems to be more resistant to breaking down compared to semi's and minerals.
