Hi all
Have owned a VY 11 wagon 1993 since 2013 approx .. the only cost up until a major service in October2021.. was a battery and a water pump .
As this was my partners work car .. up until after the Major Service … I decided to splash the cash ( we are battlers) on a major service that included a transmission oil change ( terrible decision ).
We now less than 3000 km after service have a Holden wagon with less than 155000 km on the clock , previously a fantastic vehicle just in need of rear brake pads and oil changes to hopefully go another 100000 km or so trouble free …… with a blown transmission .
The problem showed up a couple of days after the Service in relation to brakes and the transmission .
The transmission issue however initially was only when engine was cold .
Then oil started to drip all over the Concrete of our rental car parking space .
A mechanic here at Robina informed me the bolts were very loose underneath and that the oil level was showing vehicle was over filled with transmission oil.

Now there is smoke coming from engine bay once the engine warms up … the transmission oil filler dipstick appeared to have blown open and oil was everywhere .
I suspect this Autobahn dealership didn’t drain the old oil out and over filled it and thus damaged the cars transmission ?
Can anyone tell me the approx cost to repair the gear box ? It can hardly be reversed when cold and the engine bay is still smoking even with the oil cleaned up .
I am gutted .. my wife has driven my van since November and the car just parked since oil issue surfaced and driven only occasionally .
Now we have a potentially increasing in value straight wagon that can’t be driven and the business refusing to address their stuff up .
Any one want to buy the car $3000 as is .. I can provide the receipt for the major service at Autobahn .
The gearbox was 100 per cent ok before the service .. it was just overdue for an oil change which I got along with new engine oil , brake pads ect.
Could anyone tell me how much it might be worth with a blown gearbox 15000 km a straight body .. very very little rust and a straight interior ?
Cheers

Well there ya go, learn something new every day. I didn't know AutObarn did vehicle servicing and mechanical repairs, thought they were strictly a parts & accessories etc retailer and installers of car audio equipment.

You had a mechanic in Robina tell you the oil pan bolts were loose and the trans was overfilled so why didn't you get him to drain off the excess oil and tighten up the pan bolts?

Is this a "story" being used to sell the car on here, without the banter that comes with it on here?

Sounds like it to me, considering they're asking a gearbox rebuild price on one hand and a sale price for the whole car on the other

If this VY is really as good as he says he would be best getting it checked by an Auto Trans Specialist to obtain a true assessment and report of what is wrong and how much to repair before throwing out the baby with the bath water.
Things may not be as bad as they seem.

Armed with said report he may have a better chance of getting some compensation from this AutObarn mob if they did actually do something wrong.

If the pans loose they probably dropped it and dumped the fluid there, then read the manual and not accounting for the third or so left in it, overfilled it with factory dry numbers. Had a mate do the same thing in a VT with an identical result. I fixed it and the trans was fine, he didn't go far luckily, the car drove like a dog and fluid went everywhere

AutobaRn = parts stores.

AutobaHn = mechanical workshop.

I would hazard a guess here and say get under there yourself and tighten the bolts up and refill the transmission. 100% it's slipping due to low or no fluid. I really don't think 1 day like that if not driven much has caused serious damage. Try that first.

Just take the friggin thing to a proper Auto Trans specialist and let them run over. Why people piss around with these chain store repairers is beyond me. Totally OK for putting air in ya tyres but for Transmissions ?? Ya jokin ain't ya
