Reading some of the more recent reviews certainly indicates a very high level of dissatisfaction with the Shannon’s claim process of late.
Maybe the recent floods have made insurance companies more reluctant to pay out?
I have never made a claim with Shannons, so don't know what they are like. Had the Monaro with them for 11 years and the other two for 6 years.
I consider their premiums OK, as none of the other major companies will offer agreed value that reflects current asking prices for comparison.

APIA settled a few not at fault claims for us promptly with no hassles, but they couldn't compete with Shannons and advised me to transfer Shannons.

NRMA make me laugh, but not funny Ha Ha.
They now offer Classic Car insurance, but 20+ years ago they didn't want to know about an older Holden, regardless of condition and rarity. As for making a claim with them, what a head bang. Three times I had to argue with them over not at fault claims, despite having all the required info.

As for the current flood damage, some people are just unlucky after getting their cars trapped in circumstances that they couldn't avoid.
But how many just drove into water deliberately to hopefully get a write-off ?
A TV news report showed a suburban creek crossing with one car already downstream, and a Territory (?) was driven into the water until it reached the windscreen, and it started to float towards the other abandoned car. That sort of driving deserves a claim refusal.

Could not agree more. People are told time and time again ‘do not attempt to cross flood waters’.

Yet these brain dead morons thumb their noses on their toothless heads, and the insurance companies pay up at the expense of the rest of us.

Yeah but have you read the PDS?

They can discount payout for vehicle condition… 50% worn tyre can see you paying 1/2 tyre cost. Rust in panel attachment can see you paying for the rust repair to attach the replacement panel… It’s a very 70’s type policy…

As long as you are aware of such conditions and make the choice eyes wide open, that’s fine but if you’re the type who doesn’t read PDS’, you may get a rude shock at claim time.
I left Enthusiast and went back to Shannons for this exact reason.

Theres a lot of hidden niggles in the PDS and not only that but I had 5000km a year use on my policy and when I wanted to bump it to 7500km for a roadtrip they almost DOUBLED my premium for this.

With Enthusiast you have to send them odometer readings each year and you must stick within the agreed km amounts, where as Shannons I've got it on limited use cover, I can drive it a couple of times a week as far as I want and rack up as many km's in a year as I want as long as I don't use the car as my daily driver.

Enthusiast would only give me an agreed value of $11k on the VR as well, Shannons did $20k for about $3 per month more including salvage rights and full glass replacement etc. Shannons actually took the time to sit with my on the phone for about an hour and work out the value/amount spent on every single thing I'd done to the car to come up with an accurate payout figure instead of what other insurance companies to and just look up the redbook value of that model on their computer.

I'll never touch Enthusiast again, after the way I was treated just wanting to bump my agreed milage up slightly to not wanting to come to the party with agreed value and also having to send them my odometer readings each year is just a bit over the top.

I put my Thunder on Shannons too as a daily driver and they were almost double the agreed value of any other insurance company. AAMI/Allianz/RAA etc all just looked at it as an SV6 ute they don't care if it's a limited run model etc. Where as Shannons actually took the time to look at carsales and see what Thunders were selling for to get an approx value etc and did it for $25k where as all others were only wanting to do about $12-13k

Had 3 at fault claims with Shannons in the last 3 years (2 of those not my fault but the fuckwits failed to pull over and give details). Anyway safe to say for the first time in my life I'm well and truly up over an insurance company. I was certain they wouldn't renew my policy recently but they still did which I thought was pretty cool. Never had problems with claims. In all cases I have used a small local repairer that is not on Shannons books and they were fine with that.

I had old Lambretta and Vespa scooters with Shannon’s. Never had to make a claim though.
They were much cheaper than competitors from memory.

I believe Suncorp own many of the big insurance companies:(
Typical corporate. There’ll be no competition one day, and you think we pay through the nose now?:(

Suncorp and IAG have about 85% of market share between them.
There basically is no competition.

Everyone likes to pull out the old "there will be no competition one day" but that is why there's anti-competition laws in Australia.

I guess it depends how old the car is. For old stuff where that's a risk (e.g. rust), I can see it being a downer. For new stuff, its less of a problem.

Shannon's were asking crazy money. I bet for multiple vehicle, or specialist old stuff they are good though
