Has any one ever had a car window shatter on it's own. My daughter awoke to a loud noise this afternoon and saw that her driver's side window had shattered. She suspects someone who made a threat last night on Facebook (Facebook is nothing but trouble if you ask me). I was just curious if windows can shatter on their own on a coolish day and this was just a coincidence.
Yes - a work car on a cold day (small hatch). Had the heater on and parked at the shops on the way home - closed the door and the back hatch window exploded. It shocked me I can tell you. The boss would not believe me... but was covered by insurance. The repairer said that the window probably had a stress defect in the glass from new (car was 6 months old) and the temp difference from inside the car to outside made it go pop.
Had one explode in my face not long ago and another while I was standing next to it when a twig fell out of a tree and hit it. Yet I have seen big tuff blokes punch a car window and the only thing they manage to break is one of their own metacarpal's.
Thinking some more on this we has a set of drinking glasses that 2 exploded in front of us a few months apart. Was having a drink of coke and had just finished drinking it and put the glass down on the wooden lounge table. A few minutes later it just exploded into little bits in all directions. made both my and my wife jump up - like what was that!. When the second glass did the same thing on the sink doing dishes again by it's self we binned the last 4 for safety. So I've seen 2 glasses self explode and a rear hatch screen.
The glasses had a diamong pattern in them and it took all of a few seconds to toss the other 4 out. We concluded that there was stress in the glass when made and that it was way too dangerous to have in the house (young kid on the way then) So glass can go bang - but I'd say with your issue there may just have been a little help. I copped a bit of flack from some Internet forum members some time back for putting clubsport stickers on my car - and not long after a bit of a Internet tiff I get a huge gouge on my new sticker with a large dent. I bet I know who was responsible for it - I know his real name - but feel it's not worth the agro of getting him back. I fixed the car and replaced the sticker as I had heaps of them. Facebook is a real issue for cyber bullies - they cant help themselfs and cause no end of trouble. Hope you can sort it out - I'd report them to the police and get an incedent report on the window - just incase.
We held an MG club meet a few months back at work. they had cars inside the function centre in the same room they had a banquet dinner in. during speaches a side window exploded on a brand new straihgt out of the box MG6, scared the shyte out of 300 old MG owners. no one was real sure what happened but the aircon was pumping to keep heat down from the spot lights directly above the cars, so temp fluctuations could have been a cause.
