Shift boot not going on ?

Hello I’m 16 and have a manual 2002 vu Commodore. I bought it and the shift boot sits inside the Center console and I have no clue how it goes back together. I can’t seem to find anything online about it idk if I’m missing a part or what if anyone has any info would be much appreciated. Also if the actual shifter is stock or not because when I put it in gear it’s really
notchy then it has heaps of side to side play. Thank you in advance

I presume you have a V6. Refer to the attachment below. Looks like you are missing the plastic retainers.

Yes I have a v6. Yeah I might be. Would you know where I could find them?
