    Hey guys,

Knowing my luck, ive had some bast**** ram into the rear side of my car. I cant really afford fixing it, hence it has been a while since its happened and have no plans on repairing it. (im young so that explains my $ situation)

The dent is a pretty decent blow on the rear edge of the car. Will rust inevitably occur? if so

    - how long will it begin
    - and how long till it gets in a bad situation (if it even does at all)

I guess my only worry is driving a road worthy car, i want this car to last me a couple years yet unitil i finish uni and get a real job. Is time on my side?

    Cheers fella's

depends how bad the damadge is and how much bare metal is showing, you will only get surface rust for a while but then it will start eating away just put some rust convertor on it now and grab an areosole can which should reduce your cahnce of any rust

You are a 'worry wort' matt, LOL. When the bare steel is exposed to the atmosphere, a protective rust 'skin' will form which will either seal it from further rust, or dramatically slow down the oxidising process. It will only rust further if water is trapped like under chipped paint etc. I presume you are reffering to rust holes in your initial enquiry! by the time anything nasty like that is going to happen, the car will be long gone.
