It won't overheat the cat, it's supposed to get hot to work properly. The heat shield is to protect the surrounding body from the heat that the cat generates. You can buy generic heat shielding and bolt that on. Or even cut a piece of thin metal to shape.

I hope the guy was sitting down when my boss told him the price for his Fiat Punto's transmission accumulator. It comes as a whole hydualic unit for the semi auto $5,800.
