    I've got a 2010 SV6 Ute, SIDI.
Right from the word go I was giving it a hard time.
I change the oil and filter every 7500km, but I haven't noticed ANY change in oil level, stays exactly where I left it when changing the oil :)

If it was a Subaru you were talking about, this "Check oil" light should be renamed "Your engine just sh1t itself" light. If you see that light, it's too late, your engine just seized

    Hi Mate

I would go back to the dealership, tell them you have noticed excessive engine oil consumption, what they will do is conduct an oil consumption test, they will fill up your engine oil levels to full, then tell you to drive 3000kms and bring the car back to them, they will then measure the amount of oil burnt and tell you whether its within the tolerance range (They have a curved line graph for their engine oil burning tolerance levels). If the amount burnt is over the specified range, then they will offer to fix the engine for you.

Make sure when you go to the dealer and they fill up your engine oil that the correct engine oil viscosity is used, eg, SIDI 3.6L should be 5W/30.

mine is SV6 Series II bought new on Jan 2011 - last couple of days, engine was making noise sometimes, so I brought it in to service. Dealer says my engine oil is 5 L short! WHAT?
I've had many cars before - but this is the first time a car consumed engine oil like that.
I don't drive like a maniac, and it only has 10000 km on it. Dealer wants me to bring it back after 1000km to see if it's still eating oil.
    Very strange.

Mine is a April 2011 SV6 Auto S2 and i used 2.5ltrs between the first service and the 15,000km service. I am now 1500km into a 3000km oil consumption test. By the feel of this thread it must be a issue.
The noise you had was probably like mine, when i accelerated in first and then lifted my foot i got a air rush sound from the vents, that say it was from some actuators on the cams not getting oil.

As for checking a vehicle fluids weekly, i bought a new car so i didn't have to too. I had a 2008 petrol Hilux that never used oil between services (Despite being driven hard) and my wifes 2006 CRV also never uses oil.

I do have a good dealer who will sort it out,

Ive checked all my fluids weekly on every car ive ever had and its just become a habbit, id rather spend time checking and know they are all topped up rather than find out the hard way....

Just had my car checked after doing 3245km and it used just over 1ltr of oil, since its 15,000km service in Nov 2011.

The dealer is sending a request to holden to fit a "service bulliten" modified PCV and hose kit to it, which is stage one of the repair, they also said they now have a few cars with oil consumption test results pending.

If i wanted to top up my oil weekly i would have bought a Great Wall, Oh hang on they dont need the oil topped up.

    Hey mate,

I have a series 1 195kw ve, I have the same issues as above, excessive oil consumption. Mine is around 2-3l of oil used per 3500km travelled. I have a oil catch can which is around 250mls, and i have to empty it every second weekend, so I know it's the valve that's the issue.

I called my local Holden dealer and they didn't know the VE's had a PCV Valve, do you know if they differ from series I to series II?

Which dealer are you using (pm me if u can)

    Thanks heaps.

    Edit: I travel around 650km/week.

I have this same problem on my and my missus VE V6,
And i reckon i have actually worked this issue out. Maybe not everybodies problem but most of you.
If you take the black air intake box off your throttle body and look inside it you will see a pool of oil in the bottom.
My theory is that it is actually sucking oil in thru the tube that runs back down over your right side rocker cover and is attached to the pcv valve at the rear of the rocker cover. Maybe the pcv valve needs replacing. Let me know what you find in the black box

I will clock up a few KM and have a look inside the throttle body, I think you maybe right since they are doing a warranty service bulletin on replacing the PCV and line under warranty. hope that is the fix i need

That's the issue mine had/has, as a temporary fix I got a oil catch can.. The fluid it catches is disgusting, glad its not going back through the engine now..

Have a look on the lower edge of your throttle body, mine had oil there that I had to clean + oil in the bottom of the air box piping to the throttle.

Mine was getting so bad that it was sucking oil thru the throttle body and setting off the check engine light.
The code was something to do with the ABS???? Weird.
It also kept switching the stability control on and off every 10 minutes.
Soon as i took the black box off, cleaned it out and cleaned the throttle body out, good as gold, not a problem since. So i know what the problem is with mine
    next time it happens

Mine was getting abs codes as well + check engine light, didn't think it was related :s
Haven't had check engine light since installing the catch can and resetting the codes.

2 weeks till i get the new PCV and hose kit installed, I also have 3 trips to Canberra and one to Newcastle so that will be a good test to see if its fixed (2,000km in 2 weeks)
