Hey all

So I have noticed a leak on the daily's sump gasket so im feeling its time to replace it..

A bit of foruming has been done and it turns out that it comes out of the factory (engine is a 4AGE) with silastic as a gasket, and using a cork gasket is less effective and requires longer bolts

A couple of people have told me to (after cleaning it all up) put the silicone on the engine face (where the sump goes onto the engine), put the sump on and just hold it in place with the bolts (but not tightening it up), let the silicone cure for 24 hours and then torquing them up to the correct specs..

Is that the way to go about it, or should I just put the silastic on and tighten it up to the right specs?

Also, the goop, is it recommended I go to to toyota to get their stuff or just use grey RTV silicone?

Sorry about all the questions chabs, Im a toyota noob :)

Cheers guys

Clean all surfaces well and remove and old gasket.
Squeeze a continuous bead of silicone 4-6mm thick.
Attach the sump and tighten bolts till just when the silicone oozes out.
Let cure for an hour then tighten to specs
