heya , got a set of mags i intend to fit to the car , but wondering , as i do a lot of towing of cars ( on car trailer of course ) and already have it sitting on the bump stops , is this going to overstress the mags and possibly crack/damage them?
If you have the car sitting on the bump stops your trailer is loaded very badly. Most tow hitches specify up to 50kg tow ball weight and this is specified on the safety sticker on the tow bar tongue. If you have any more weight on the ball there should be a load leveling hitch used like most caravans tow with. The wheels should be fine unless you hit something with them but I would be worried about the rest of the car. Reaper
its on the bumpstops because of the springs ( superlows ).. not the weight of the trailer and its load..
Then your springs are not suitable for towing. I'd review your situation - riding on the bumpstops is not good for your car and very illegal. Reaper
are the ute bump stops longer than sedan? as before i put the springs in , it was maybe 2" off the bump stops to begin with , and i havent seen bump stops made as long as what these ones are before
Why don't get one of those heavy duty towing springs and chuck em in when towing??? It will save you the trouble from things going wrong with your car. As said above, riding near or on bump stops is a very bad idea. Super lows is not suited for towing anyway. Chucking springs in is a quick and easy job.
when towing.. i dont load the towball up.. it only gets a token amount of weight... thats how it should be. Its only rated to 90kg downforce , and it would be lucky to see 40kg of downforce ( i always make sure i dont overload the trailer too far forward before setting off , been towing for 15 odd years various sized ccars ) I think i'll look harder at the rear setup of a sedan , and compare it to the ute , i believe that the bump stops are longer than sedan , and have asked this Q , but no-one has been able to answer it
