Just wondering how you guys knew or thought you had sleep apnea.
Last night my wife had to call an ambulance. 5 years ago i had a massive heart attack with one artery 100% blocked and had to have a stent inserted.
About 7.30 last night i had breathing difficulties and my heart was racing and had tightness in my chest . After a few blood tests , xrays and ecgs everything came back negative and the doctors couldn't pinpoint anything.
I feel like i have butterflies in my stomach for want of a better description and always feel anxious, this has been happening for about a month . I very rarely sleep all night and wake.my self up snoring . The doctor thinks it could be related to sleep apnea . Have any of you guys had any of these symptoms as i can't see the connection. Thanks .

Best to see a sleep specialist and do a sleep study to see what is going on.

I started getting heart issues. Everything checked out fine on a echocardiogram. I'm healthy in that sense but my sleep doctor said that sleep apnea will cause heart issues.
It is due to low oxygen levels literally hurting your cells.
My machine makes me feel so good in the morninh even if I only use it for 4 hours then sleep normal the rest of the night.

It does take a while to get used to and a few months before your body will start to benifit from it.

I just kept waking all night and feeling like **** at work I figured it has to be killing me so I asked my GP about it.

One way to find out is by other people telling you that you are snoring a lot and loudly. Is a sign of obstruction of the airway. Also, while you sleep, wake up frequently (no bathroom break), no dreams, or simply waking up tired is a sign of Apnea. With that comes metal fogginess, falling asleep anywhere, going to bed tired and waking up tired.

Sleep Apnea can be cause by a myriad of reasons or a combo of all. Overweight, improper head support, allergies, heavy drinking before sleep, even Technologies in the bedroom, just to name a few. A sleep study as mentioned before will reveal more on the condition.

What you can do are the obvious things, loose some weight, stop drinking before bed time (avoid sleeping drunk), see if there are any alergens in your house and bedroom, good sleeping position, keep your phone away from the bedroom. If you do not see any improvement, then seek medical advice. The reason I say Med Advice as last is because the Med System always want to peddle all sorts of shît to make cash off you. Just like those auto repair shop chains.

I totally dissagree. I'm renting a sleep ap machine at the moment, it's $70 a fortnight. I will buy one once I pay my court fines and a small debt I have on some tools. For a Airsense 10 autoset from Resmed which is the top of the range machine it's about $1800 to buy then $250 every time you need to change a mask, they say every six months but you could get way more time out of one.

For the price of the machine it's cheap for how well it works. My sleep doctor told me to go shop around for a better deal don't just go throw 4k at a machine.
He said if anyone tells you, you don't need the machine they need to be shot. He then told me he also has a machine and uses it.

I have one, and is collecting dust, did not paid for it, my med ins did. One thing that I noticed. I had a cold few years back and the sleep machine helped me out breathing. Somehow, kind of cleared my sinuses from all the gunk that was trapped in there. In that case, it worth every penny, better than taking cold medications.

I don't have insurance I use Medicare, but I use a private GP and all my specialists are private but I get a rebate. I can use free GP's and get free X-rays and all that but it's always a long wait time so I pay my way and don't burden the system.

I was having a nap on the bed one afternoon. My wife noticed that I intermittently stopped breathing. If she had not noticed I probably would not have been aware of the problem. The sleep specialist told me that it would have caught up with me when I turned 80.

I could not plus didn't want to wear the CPAC machine for the rest of my life. When I was monitored I stopped breathing 30 times an hour while on my back and 4 times an hour when sleeping on my side. They told me that 4 times an hour was ok. I started off with a pillow behind me for a few weeks to make sure I didn't roll over onto my back. I am quite comfortable with this now. I recently bought a triangular pillow but couldn't get comfortable with it. I would love to sleep on my back but have accepted that it is not going to happen.

I think I was at over 20 on my side and over 50 on my back. The doctor said that using mouth guards and pillows was not going to help me.

If I loose some weight and stop drinking as much as I do I should be able to get off the machine at some stage. But I like wearing it because I actually sleep now it's great.
