Hey Guys. been meaning to ask about this for a while but never really got around to it. My VS only comes out on weekends so its pretty cold when I first start it up on a friday night. I usually leave it idling in the garage for around 5 minutes before I head out (its around 4-5 degrees when I go out). The strange thing is it feels very sluggish the first 20 or so minutes on the road, the accelerator pedal feels heavier/stiffer, the car is hesitant to drop down a gear or rev above 2500RPM unless I really mash my foot down I usually drive it gently for the first 10 minutes or so but even when it gets to operating temperature it still takes a while to free up a bit...when it does it runs great but its just that first 20 minutes or so. Anyone got any ideas? Oil pressure is fine....sits at 50PSI idle and 65 PSI cruising for the first half hour or so then it drops down to around 40 idling and 60 driving None of the cars I have owned in the past have ever behaved like this
Weird , my ecotec and Buick v6s loved cold mornings. Always felt heaps better to drive. Ls1 on the other hand always feels sluggish til its fully warmed up.
Yeah, my old VN 5L and VP V6 used to love the mornings. This one just doesn't and its driving me nuts, because after 5 minutes I jump on a 110km/h freeway and it gets dangerous because I never know exactly how quick its going to pull out of the on ramp haha
You say: "the accelerator pedal feels heavier/stiffer,"....this could be a stiff accelerator cable - they can be very stiff to move when worn and I'd guess that heating them up would help them move more freely. My suggestion is to remove the cable and saturate the inner with WD40 or similar...squirt plenty in and move the inner back and forth till it moves freely. Double check the cable is stiff by disconnecting cable at throttle body and move accelerator pedal to see if stiff.
