Series 2 VS models have as standard two transmission coolers - the standard one located in the radiator header tank plus a second one located in front of the aircon condensor. The second one is the same as the type recommended for people who tow caravans.
New auto transmissions on a lot of imported cars now have a thermostat in the transmission oil to heat it up to operating temperature quicky to improve economy.

how much did your head work cost? did you notice a diffrence?

maybe try cleaning throttle body out and tps switch, i read that this makes an incredible difference in pedal response and power, if you do this let us know how goes.
