My 2000 ss with a 5.7 v8 has a light black smoke like something burning when I rev it up to 5 or 6 rpm. When I start it and run it or at low rpm, the car drives at 2 rpm usually, there is no smoke. Only if I get at higher rpm there is a smoke from the left side of the engine, when facing the car, near the plugs. It is a black smoke like something burning. I think it is coming from the 3rd plug on the left side of the engine. What can it be.
2rpm hey.. how does it not stall? lmao.. joking. is the exhaust manifold gasket blown? crack in the headders or anything like that headder bolts even done up
Id say your rocker cover gasket is leaking. Most likely at the back near the firewall. When your car is revving its head off the oil pump is shooting oil up your push-rods and flooding your rockers (this is normal) which might explain why its only happening at high end RPM. Have a look and see if you can see any black oil stains on your extractors or exhaust?
I would say head gasket. Oil mixing though the gasket crack. Have u had alot of oil loss week by week
There are a lot of oil stains on the engine near the rocker/valve cover gasket. Yea its leaking. Is that what it is. Thanks I will get it changed. I have had no driving or overheating issues. Been on a 800km round trip twice this week no problems. Just noticed it today.
Yeah no big deal really... Just head to bursons or Holden and get yourself a new gasket but make sure its a 1 piece rubber one and an allen key. 4 allen key bolts and she's off.... Might want to use a bit of gasket glue on the gastet so it doesn't shift around on you when joining the the two back up.
You may find the attached instructions from the maintenance CD handy when replacing the rocker cover gasket:
